Our first SRT550 with our 392 cubic inch stroker motor is going together right now. We should have the motor assembled by sometime next week and in the car running the week after. I will post some pics of the pistons, rods, etc. This is going to be an extremely durable motor package that is designed to go wide open throttle for as long as you dare keep your foot down. We will be running it in an 80 mile open road race in Oct.

We are expecting to see 480 rwhp with a milder cam grind and up to 510 rwhp with a more agressive cam profile.

Durable, eh? I'm hoping it won't be like the Viper from the high speed shoot out in Road and Track a few years back (the one where Andretti did the driving). Also, with the recent one, why on God's green earth did you take out the air filter? Would have saved you from getting a stone in the impeller and it's not like that Viper wouldn't have whooped ass with air cleaner in there.

BTW, don't get me wrong, I like what you do. I'm just saying it seems like you shoot yourself in the foot everytime Road and Track tests your cars (IIRC you told Andretti not to be afraid to redline it).

Marlin - I got 2 words for you on the recent Road & Track Shootout: WE WON. And in the process beat the DHL Lola Champ race car and a lot of other fast stuff. We ran without the air filters as Lingenfelter was supposed to be there with a very fast C6 but they didnt show up. So you are right that we probably didnt need to pull the filters off. But that was a risk we took and the results are the results. And at the end of the day, I will take first place and a broke turbo. And by the way, the turbo is fixed now and we still have the first place trophy here at the shop. :)

We plan to run our 392 CID stroker SRT550 in some open road races soon. If it can live for 80 miles of wide open throttle with a fairly high average speed (i would like to see a 150 mph average speed over the 80 miles) then it should work pretty well for everyone. If it breaks - then we learn what we need to improve. Anybody else with a 500 rw hp SRT8 want to come run the same race and see how their car holds up for 80 miles of wide open throttle? It will be a lot of fun.

This is exactly the response I expect from the man himself. This is exactly why I like your cars (which is why I'm saying, on the next shoot out, leave the filters in. You'll win anyways, and it will finally put my brother in his place. I like your stuff, he doesn't. I say haha look at Hennessey wreck the competition, and my brother says yeah but he also wrecked an impeller).

I've done 195 miles averaging 117mph in a 3900lb car with 155hp that's 19 years old if that counts for anything btw (with a high of 125mph, but it couldn't keep it up on the uphills and turns). Anyways, I'll stop muddying up your thread.

I'm still curious as to how you're going to adjust for air/fuel mixture, idle quality etc with the extra cubes? No one has broken the programming open on this car yet like the Chevys and Fords.
Again I'm very interested in the response to how to make the car work post stroke and or cam work.

Believe it or not we think we can make it work with the stock program. And if we cant, we are able to modify the computer. Sorry not going to elaborate on those details as that is something that do not plan to offer outside of our SRT550 package - at least for now.

.....and I'm guessing you'll stay with the stock gear as well? I think I remember reading in R&T that you used the stock gear in your Vipers. I know alot of folks---including myself-- have had some tranny anxiety issues as we add HP.
