So i've recently purchased another kx600.1 amplifier and will be upgrading my subwoofers to 2 12" kicker L7's. also i've got a kx650.4 amplifier but needed to know what speakers/size/how many to buy. i'd like to go with kicker speakers but since they're hidden it doesnt really matter. any good component sets out there avaliable? and also with having now 3 amplifiers will i need a new battery? or perhaps just a capacitor?

This post helped me out alot. The front dash if you do not want to trim make sure you get the 3.5" size. The front doors are 6x9s, which I have gone with 8" Kicker mids (they sound very good, but need power). The rear deck is also 6x9s but I am sure you could find some 6.5s to fit with a little trimming and a wood spacer.

I went with a 8w7 in the rear deck (sub fires into the cabin), so no rattling. If you are doing 2 Kickers in the trunk, you better get some Dynamat Extreme or something like that for the trunk, rear deck, and sides to stop all the rattles.

I am thinking of trying the JL Audio 3 way set for the front. This will be a 6.5 for the door, 4" in the deck and tweets in the door piller with all the proper crossovers.

There is a small problem if you are using a 4 channel amp for possibly 7 speakers (center, 2 dash, 2 rear deck, 2 doors) without a component set for proper crossover. I know most amps have crossovers, but not all speakers would need the same roll off point. I have started mine, but not done. If you have any questions, please let me know I am not a pro by any means, but I have done the speaker upgrades in this car already.

Which 8" Kicker mids did you use, HEMI? The SS model? How do they sound?

This is the one I used, I think it is similar but these are last year's model. They sound awesome. Just make sure you use enough power and cross them over correctly. They really should play between 80-200HZ. That is per the tech guy at Kicker that I spoke with about them. They will play lower, and higher but this is the correct range if you are using them for true midbass only drivers.

The amp I just bought (JL 450.4) is sick, it has a 150x2 for the fronts, and you can set up the crossover to play the front channels in a bandpass mode so it will play everything above let's say 80hz (it is adjustable) then the channels 3-4 crossover will play above 200hz giving you the recomended 80-200 frequency range for the 8's.

But, I did just buy the JL 3 way set, so the 8's will be gone this week and in their place will go the JLs...

So did you forego your UConnect and nav voice and replace the stock amp or did you just add the 450.4 after the stock amp? No matter how I end up doing it, I'm going to use the JL e6450 6-channel amp. I really like what I've heard about it.

JL 3-way set? 6.5 components? I listened to a set of JL components at the local shop and they have EXCELLENT midrange and highs, but the dealer said he heard complaints that they blend too much with the system if you have a subwoofer, because they aren't bright enough. I thought they sounded amazing, but I guess I could see his point. Tell me how it works out!

... So what are you doing with your 8" Kickers? I wouldn't mind trying them out, if you're letting them go (for a price, of course).

They will be out of the car next week unless, by some miracle the new 3 way set gets here tomorrow, which I doubt will happen.

I did just hook up the 450.4 today and it is very good (and very big). Right now the 150x2 is playing the door 8", and the 75x2 side is playing the front 4" coax. This is temporary until I get the 3 way JL set.

The Uconn and voice and all other items were not dealt with. I will not use them...

As far as the 8s, I would sell them for a small fee maybe $60.00? Let me know, if not I iwll list them on Ebay. They were used less than 3 weeks.

Check your PM inbox. Do you have any pics of where you stashed your amp? How big was the sucker?

Hmm, I think we've hijacked this thread enough. Nothingbutnick, you asked about needing a new battery or caps. I've been running with Optima batteries for a long time, they are designed for deep draw audio systems and better cranking power in cold weather... at least that's what the box says. haha! I really just like how they look...

Caps are not typically necessary and I've recently been reading into how useless most of them are. I'll probably never get a cap, unless my trusted installer suggests it.

Here is what I did and am extremely happy. You do not need 7 speakers if you have good quality speakers on an amp. I got a 6.5" component set for the front and put the tweeters up in the dash and the 6.5 in the door. The imaging from the tweeter is awesome bouncing off the front windshield. For the back I got 6x9 3-way speakers. These are Polk Momo speakers and they are awesome. The components are 300 a set but come with a 3 year warranty and you will love the sound. The 6x9s were 169 a set also with a 3 year warranty. This is all running off an MB Quart 125x4 @ 4 ohm amp. It gets too loud for me WAY before it gets distorted. I would recommend those speakers and also with a crossover on the cd player and amp it is crystal clear even with the subs pounding.

Hey Slawkins,
Did the 6.5's fit in the door stock or did you have to add a plate or something to make them fit. I'm looking to upgrade my speakers as well and would rather go with 6.5's and tweets up front and x9's in the rear. Rather than x9's all around. TIA
