in the event you missed part 1...
here is the link...
http://www.300cforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8432
last line continued...
I hear someone tell me to turn it on...
the driver's door is still open...
I turn the ignition...
and the rumble, roar, cacaphonic bliss of 425 horses are unleashed within the small dimly lit area...
I sit back and enjoy the sound of the 6.1 Liter Vixen idling under my touch...
slowly depressing the gas pedal ever so slightly and bringing her to life...
be gentle Chris, I remember from numerous posts...
as she roars ever so slightly at 3,000 rpm...
my goodness I think this one will be a fun one to tame...
my hands run back across the steering wheel one more time...
and find the release to her center of power...
and pull back on the handle and jump out all at once to witness her power firsthand...
I lift the hood...
interesting release I think to myself...
and the hood goes up gradually with its high pressure charged "shocks" stopping it and holding it in place...
man there is a lot of "stuff"
some mechanic somewhere back home will know what all these other little hoses and wires mean...
my intent is to see the orange block that I have heard so much about...
mmm...
there it is...
(ashame the brembos don't match in color...)
I linger a while longer...
and then button her up and close the door and tell the guys...
take good care of her...
and make a mental note of the 10 miles on her...
and head back to the dealership...
start to go through the paperwork and the salesguy has got to bail (unfortunately a 4-year old who was a friend of their daughter's had passed away and the funeral was at 11am)
no problem I say, take care of business and say a prayer for me (all the while thinking of my 2 girls and trying to imagine what that would be like to lose one - man I hope that never happens to anyone here - although life is never fair)...
I am in the hands of the IVth now and we roll through the paperwork and such...
and come to a major roadblock...
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PROOF OF INSURANCE WITH YOU OR YOU CAN GET A HOLD OF YOUR AGENT IF YOU ARE GOING OUT OF STATE TO GET YOUR VEHICLE...
so after 25 minutes we figure something out and I get my wife to fax a copy of the proof of insurance from her work...
ok, minor disaster avoided...
I am looking at the "checklist" that someone here provided and think the whole time as this is going on...
make sure you post that this needs to be added to the checklist...
I get all of the paperwork that was in the car...
why?
someone said it was cool to have...
(my thought after looking at it...
ok, sure if it makes it go faster...)
I review the window sticker again...
making sure everything is there that I ordered...
sign the docs...
fiddle around with who knows what...
and finally say...
where is my car it is 11:20am est...
and I am going to be late big time making time on the road...
the F&I guys says oh, its outside...
I don't see it...
it is - just in a covered enclosed area that is "attached" but is "outside" - something about snow and inclement weather...
whatever...
where is the car...
ah, there she is...
I approach from the right side this time and pop the trunk and load the carry-on and briefcase...
pull out the radar detector, the cd's, directions and the paperwork...
the lines on her are just awesome...
I plop into the driver's seat...
man is it comfortable...
I mean comfortable...
and fire her up again...
letting her breath...
it is time for a test drive of my beauty...
I ease her into drive and feel the 5-speed tranny engage and power itself down to crawl speed to get outside the enclosed area...
there are like 8 people standing around...
and I am told if i give it gas...
it will not go over 3,500 rpm before it cuts off...
so I gun it a little and the crowd that is gathered justs breaks out in smiles all...
I pull a little further and I am stuck behind a 300C limited about to be test driven...
a smile creeps across my face...
(all the while thinking of what vvv90 would do to this guy)
should I let him go first and blow by him and blow the sale...???
nah, remember 300 miles minimum Chris before opening her up...
I get the mirrors (all the while thinking of Hemeee's post on proper mirror adjustment) and plop in a CD and hear the KICKER come to life...
Started with U2 as my first CD and found that the system was well worth the wait...
my goodness does it rock!
what does the thing limit out too...???
ahh, 38...
sweet!!!
good thing the IV is about 28...
as people around the corner of the building come to see what is all the commotion...
the III justs laughs as he sees us pull away...
I merge into traffic and give it a little gas...
hmmm...
not a lot there...
runs nice and smooth...
go about a 1/10th of a mile and give it a little more gas...
WOOOHHH BABY!!!
NOW THAT IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!
Holy geez!!!
under 3,500 rpm Chris...
right!
I have been waiting how long?
I punch it and she justs leaps...
almost wanting to pull out of my grasp...
(ok, FYI - mental note - use 2 hands at all times when under full power)...
we head for a little run...
I screw up the shifter thing the first time out and realize it will take me a couple of times to get used to that...
So I get it into D and see what she has...
I punch it around a right hander at a light and she justs jumps...
wooh baby!
come back here...
and the IVth justs looks and smiles and tightens his seat belt...
go about 1/2 a mile and can just feel the power in the seat of your pants and the rest of your body...
time to see how the brakes are...
I think I get on it...
(probably 70% at that time)
and she justs come to a very smooth halt...
ah, this is going to be fun...
I pull over, jump out and say "your turn"...
he freaks, he hasn't even seen one of these yet, let alone had a chance to drive one...
and he has a little fun...
and we are back to the dealership...
park it next to a Limited and there is no comparison...
(sorry 300C owners - no offense intended)
time to break out the fine tooth comb...
where is that checklist...
run through everything on it...
FYI - (check the under carriage - specifically underside of the front spoiler - it will be rubbed with paint or something...)
check the entire body...
find 2 little dust spots - one on the trunk line and one in the hood - enough that you can run your finger across and tick it...
not cool on a $50,000 car...
everything else seems in order...
let's get the sirus up and running...
while that is going on I notice a paint chip above the gas door...
are you kidding me!!!
WHAT THE F$%^!!!
no way!
this is not cool...
III, IV and the sales manager are speechless...
I say to them before you say anything of what you are going "to do" to rectify this...
think about it...
we get the sound system working with Sirus and it justs rocks...
I recall the seat trick of popping the backs seats a crack to let the Sub breath into the interior compartment better...
they just laugh and say I know way to much about this car...
damn straight - thank goodness for 300Cforums.com!!!
and we go side by side with the Boston system in the Limited and the Kicker is just not only head and shoulders above it, but really justs puts it in its place...
there is no comparison at all...
IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!!!
Thank goodness!!!
you can just hear the Kicker over the Boston for clarity and for oomph...
they all are in agreement and say there is no comparison and I just smile and think of JohnnyVIG and his toned down review...
thanks for not rubbing it in JohnnyVIG...
FYI - 30-34 is a very nice range for it to really run at...
its time to leave...
what, someone wants to interview me from where...???
a local CBS station...
sure why not, I'm already late as it is...
first question - "do you think the Big 3 are on the ropes?"
no, not at all with cars being designed like this I reply...
(KUDOS TO YOU GILLES!!!
AND TO THE SRT TEAM FOR THE HOTTEST 4-DOOR SEDAN ON THE MARKET!!!)
we go through another 3-4 minutes of Q&A...
the III says he'll get me a tape...
and I get directions out of there...
(and make the mistake of not figuring out the Nav before I left...)
I'm on my own now...
and she is all mine...
time to put some miles together Vixen...
to be continued...
