Somebody asked what did I do to modify my
airbox (Don't have name,lost email,sorry)
Removed Airbox, then removed the lower air silencer.
Used jigsaw to cut airbox,as shown,re-installed airbox
Fully open bottom, draws cool air from where silencer
used to be.
Sounds fine during normal driving,
tone gets deeper with WOT.
Used K&N dropin filter.
Costs a lot less than some other CAI ideas,
And serves the same purpose

Second modification..

Added 2 feet of 3" flexible tubing to bottom of airbox
(sealed in by duct tape, and painted black),directed tubing
to area of where the left foglite insert is.
Inserts to be soon removed, and replaced with either mesh
or horizontal bar.
Airbox works as good,if not better than some of those
$250 custom CAI units.

Sounds like a pretty good way to go, you might find it helpful to go to a larger diameter tubing from the airbox to the intake. If you haven't already done that. I hear that it reduces the restriction quite a bit for better airflow.

I totally agree.
Thinking about trying to make an oblong intake the same size
of the insert, and match it up with the insert opening, causing
that "Ram Jet" effect.

Custom made Cold Ait Intake..so to speak..lol

My "Custom made Cold Air Intake" system is STILL working GREAT !
I have installed the Mesh Lower Vents, and thinking of a design
for a "Ram Air" type inlet to go behind the Mesh Vent.
"Custom Intake" cost..so far..including K&N dropin filter-
$50.00
I know..I know..not going to be a big demand for this system,
but ..compared to $300 system..mine works as good ,if not better..
Mine has no BIG hole in the side to draw air from, all air comes
from the bottom ( 3" tubing) behind the Lower Vent.
Again..Just My Opinion !!
works 4 me...

It's 3" flexible tubing I got at Pep Boys, was originally designed
to go with a K&N lookalike filter,I ran it from the bottom of the
Air Box to the rear of the lower vent

EDIT: Better description would be like the flex hose
used for Clothes Dryer Venting

Stan,
It looks like your cut is on the engine side and bottom, but the part of the box that slips over the opening to where the silencer was is still there. Won't more engine heat get into the airbox that way? Am I seeing that correctly, or did I miss something?

The cut is made ONLY on the bottom, where I drew the RED line-
then discard the piece that you cut off and keep the top piece.
I then used duct tape to secure the 3" flexible tubing inside the
bottom of the cut portion of the Air Box,then extended the flexible
tubing down to the area behind the Lower vent.
It looks VERY similar to the Volant, except mine has NO BIG HOLE
in the side, and I used flexible tubing instead of a rubber hose.

This may show a better view of what I am talking about.

I was just thinking of doing a similar modification. I'm thinking of making a mold to make something out of fiberglass to better fit the bottom vent holes. I'm going to cut the silencer (or find a tube at the local home center) to fix back into the airbox. Finally, find a piece of tubing to connect the two together.

Anyone who's removed the "vent covers" notice the tubing and wiring just dangling behind the fender?

Yeah guy, I noticed the plumbing in the bumper. The only thing that concerns me about duct tape is that stuff is not that durable, I think the aluminum home heating vent tape is much stickier and way stiffer and might be a better choice. I am concerned about collapse of the duct tape and the dryer hose though it at least has metal support and should retain it's shape. Good mod, I did the silencer mod and never one to leave well enough alone I have the Volant from tbyrne on the way. This will be the 4th and final intake mod I do.

Do you have any pic's of your 300C posted in any of the threads, I would love to see it especially the Side sport vents, Painted Engine cover w/Chrome Trim Kit & lower inserts. I've been a member for awile but just got my 300C this week and still trying to decide all the mods to do.
