i have an Alpine dva-9861 cd/dvd head unit and it has digital ouput terminal for fiber optic compatable units. i'm looking to install ps3 in the vehicle and was wondering if this is dgital output is for connecting the audio from the ps3 through the fiber optic cable. i just heard this has better sound that using component ouputs for audio.

Sorry, that goes the wrong direction for what you are trying to do.
The optical connection is in the output direction, for connecting
other processors, such as a 5.1 processor, etc.

The auxiliary input is where you would need to connect your PS3,
and unfortunately, I believe it only allows RCA connections and
you'd need either a KCA-121B or [FONT=Arial, Helvetica] KCA-410C adapter.

...it is possible if you use the Alpine 5.1 processor and Video expansion module. There are digital inputs on the PXA-H701. This will be a slightly costly excersice simply to intergrate a PS, if you are going to use it for DVD playback, go ahead, the 5.1 pro is a great component.
