As the title says, another year has passed.
Although he passed the mot, I do have a small gripe.
I did tell the mechanic when I dropped off the car, that the passenger side wiper needed replacing. So, why did they do the mot first, failed the car on the wiper and then re-do the mot? Don't get the logic...
Anyway, no other issues so, happy days!

That is annoying, since the failure is shown in the online history for all to see - and for something so trivial, makes the car appear unloved?

Is there a benefit for the garage to be seen to be not passing everything?

My garage makes it quite clear in their MOT conditions, that if a vehicle is submitted for repairs and MOT at the same time, they will always perform the MOT first. I suspect that the reasoning behind this is to cover themselves in the event that MOT failure could be deemed to be a result of their repair.

Yes, that is a good reason and thank you for clarifying.
However, on this occasion (changing wiper blades) this 'condition' is somewhat... ridiculous.
Having said that, I am not planning to sell the car, therefore an MOT fail is of no consequence!

I agree that the wiper blade issue does seem ridiculous, but the rule is probably intended to cover more complex situations and maybe the staff can't make exceptions.
I don't think a serious buyer would be too concerned about a fail due to a wiper blade.

I couldn't imagine having to go through that.

I've seen some sketchy vehicles on the road, but to have someone try to put any of my vehicles out of service over wiper blades or the like I'd lose it. Here in the states I know some places have inspections which you'll fail for a simple check engine light being on. I couldn't imagine someone telling me I couldn't drive my car anymore over a O2 sensor or something trivial like that.

I once had a car (not a Chrysler) fail its annual test for a barely visible hairline crack in the rear license plate. 12 months later its replacement failed again for the same reason and at the same garage which had provided the replacement, so it gave me much pleasure invoking the warranty for a free replacement. Just before I drove off, I noticed that one of the characters on the plate was incorrect, so back went the car for yet another license plate. Strangely, the car had managed to pass a test with different front and rear plates.
