Are you Sirius ?

Canadian cars cannot be sold with Sirius option.

Does anyone know how hard it would be to retrofit and install Sirius. Is the radio ready and just not hooked up? Is it a different wiring harness?

I know I could add an aftermarket, but would rather retrofit with OEM even if I have to order parts in the US.

Thanks in advance

I just hooked mine up...radio is equipped, and all you have to do is call. It is awesome...165 clear channels of commercial free whatever, music, news ,sports....but of course I am in the usa.
How many stations would be available up there? That would be my only concern if I lived there. You might want to try to find out. Maybe check with some others who have traveled through your area. Or better yet, across Hwy 1.

There are no stations up here. Our bloody government does not allow satellite radio at this time, so it must be bought out of the US which means you must have a US address for billing purposes. I really don't know how they would police it but those are the rules. I hear that satellite will be available here in the near future but will not include services out of the US. If you ever had to endure a couple of hours watching the CBC, then you will know how we feel, then again I really don't want to listen to the likes of Howard Stern.
yup the radio is satellite ready . All you need is a wire harness , antenna and satellite receiver module . Your car will have the plug already on the left side of the dash to plug the wire harness into . This plug is located just above the parkbrake mechanism under the lower dash trim cover . Its a small white plug (only one with nothing plugged into it). Then you run your harness to the left rear of the trunk and mount the Sirius satellite receiver module to the body and run your antenna to this module . I would not drill the roof to mount the antenna but install it in the rear parcel shelf or some other location that it can receive the signal . Then all you have to do is call them to activate it using a U.S address .If you live in the lower Ontario area you will receive the signal just fine
Worked fine for me

Two years ago, I drove from Mi. across the southern part of Canada to Maine and my XM satellite worked fine the whole way.
Thanks guys. I have XM in a couple other cars and signal is great.

I guess I will have to order these parts from a US dealer, correct?
Grunt, would you have any idea of the part numbers?
Would the antenna receive a decent signal mounted inside on the rear deck lid behind the seats?
North 49Guy - i'm going to add this to my magnum srt8 when it arrives. I'm also in the toronto area (but have a US mailing address) so i have to go the 'gray market' route too.

Thanks GRUNT for the news of the easy hook up. as i am getting the magnum i guess i'll have the drill the roof. hopefully there are grommets in the installation kit.

here are the part numbers from mopar.com:

82208723 Sirius Satellite Radio Installation Kit: for all vehicles; includes I-sheet, templates, wiring harness, antenna cable, mounting bracket, and hardware US$124.00

82208881AA Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver and Antenna Kit: includes CAN B receiver, permanent mount antenna, owner's manual, and activation information. Vehicle specific installation kit is required. For use with Mopar and production radios only. US $175.00
Sirius glass-mount antenna:

MrHappy, I have heard of others placing the antenna on the rear package tray with good results, but here is another alternative that I found, and posted back in Nov., regarding a new antenna that requires NO drilling. I have not seen any posts yet from anyone that has tried it.

Sirius Adds Target, Kmart; New Glass Mount Antenna (excerpted)
By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 11/2/2004 8:50:00 AM

New York — Sirius Satellite Radio announced that its radios will be available through Target and Kmart stores this quarter in addition to Office Depot. The company also said it will offer promotional rebates on hardware and dealer gift cards starting in November. Sirius further announced that it is offering the first interior glass mount antenna for automobiles vs. the current antennas, which are all exterior. The new SIGMA antenna was developed by Sirius and RecepTec to offer an aesthetic advantage over the current exterior antennas. SIGMA mounts in the shaded sun band of a vehicle’s front windshield and has no exposed wiring. Sirius said the antenna also reduces costs by eliminating pre-wiring associated with factory installations and allows faster factory and dealer installations.

SIRIUS Introduces Interior Glass Mounted Satellite Radio Antenna for Vehicles
Design Offers Aesthetic Advantage Over Exterior Mounted Satellite Radio Antennas

NEW YORK, Oct. 26 -- SIRIUS , the premium satellite radio provider known for delivering the very best in commercial-free music and sports programming to cars and homes across the country, today announced the introduction of the world's first interior glass mounted satellite radio antenna.

The SIRIUS Interior Glass Mounted Antenna, or SIGMA, was developed by SIRIUS and its antenna partner RecepTec, to provide a distinct aesthetic advantage over exterior mounted satellite radio antennas currently in use. SIGMA is mounted in the shaded sun band of a vehicle's front windshield, has no exposed wiring and is unobtrusive. In addition to its aesthetic advantage, SIGMA will:
* Reduce costs due to the elimination of antenna pre-wiring and associated factory installation costs
* Allow faster and more efficient factory and dealer installations
* Reduce warranty costs -- windshield protection eliminates problems common to exterior mounted antennas such as water leakage, wind noise or detachment due to harsh long term environmental conditions and car wash damage

The SIGMA uses current OEM validated technology that has already been approved by SIRIUS' car manufacturing partners. SIGMA is made possible by the unique highly inclined elliptical orbits of SIRIUS' three satellites, resulting in superior line of sight reception to vehicles.

"This is the next step in the evolution of satellite radio antennas," said Doug Wilsterman, Senior Vice President of Automotive OEM for SIRIUS. "We believe that the unique design and ease of installation will make the SIGMA very popular with consumers." SIGMA offers auto manufacturers the flexibility to completely integrate satellite radio inside a vehicle's passenger cabin without disrupting the harmony of a vehicle's interior or exterior styling.

Come on Mikey.... no whining..

CBC's quality and content is actually quite good. It might be a bit different in style, but good and relaxing after all the same style content on 95% of the remaining channels.
This just in!!!

Good news for the Canucks.

The CRTC authorizes Canada's first three subscription radio services
OTTAWA-GATINEAU, June 16 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) today announced the approval of three subscription radio licences and the establishment of a licensing framework for satellite subscription radio services.
The Commission approved the licence applications of SIRIUS Canada Inc.
(SIRIUS Canada) and Canadian Satellite Radio Inc. (CSR) for subscription radio services to be delivered by satellite and terrestrial transmitters, and the application by CHUM Limited (CHUM/Astral) to offer subscription radio services uniquely through terrestrial transmitters.
"These decisions foster the objectives of the Broadcasting Act and
balance the interests of Canadian consumers, the radio industry and the music industry," said CRTC Chairman, Charles Dalfen. These licences will harness new technologies for Canadians and give Canadian talent exposure to listeners across Canada and indeed, North America - both through new Canadian channels and air-play on U.S. channels. New and emerging artists should benefit especially from the airtime that is being reserved for them."
The newly-licensed services will add new programming to the Canadian
broadcasting system. There will be more choice and diversity for consumers, particularly those in rural and remote areas, where broadcasting choices are limited.
The availability of Canadian subscription radio services also enables
consumers to access authorized Canadian services through their subscriptions.

Probably still better to go with US service. More stations, more content, and probably lower cost.
yeah, the only issue is getting the bill sent to a U.S. address...kinda expensive to use a remailing service to get something that costs $10/month!
I beleive XM announced yesterday that it will enter Canada legally. In return XM MUST offer 5 canadian stations (that conform with Canada's regulations) for every 50 stations that XM has. I can see it now, they will have a traffic station for every town in Canada and nothing else. Well Maybe a Bob and Doug Mackenzi station, a Rush station, and a Neil Young station. :silly:
Guys

I purchased XM about 6 months ago and have used it all the way up to the North West Territories with no problems. I used my credit card for billing and punched in a fake US address. Nothing gets mailed to me . You can pay 3 years in advance so really there are no bills. They have my valid e mail so any correspondence is completed via e mail.
