We Are Upgrading Transmission Fluid In An Srt8 Magnum And Come To Find Out That There Is No Provision For A Dipstick On The Srt8 6.1.

Is This The Same For The 5.7?

I Am Assuming This Is A Special Dealer Only Tool. What The Hell Is The World Coming To If You Have To Go To The Dealer To Check Your Trans Fluid Level?

Any Info Would Be Appreciated. Thanks.

correct dealer only tool. I remember someone found that one from a couple years old ram pick up would work. here is what is says

A discussion about the lack of a tranny dipstick on dodgemagnum.net yielded a post of the text from the service manual. ref post here (http://www.dodgemagnum.net/phpBB2/v...der=asc&start=4)

Ok despite the Service Manual detail on how to check fluid level, I thought about this and really that applies to any car where the level of the tranny fluid changes based on temperature.

So, with that in mind, why do this one different than others. I think it's about keeping people from putting the wrong fluid or excess fluid in and causing most of the tranny issue out there. This is what I gather from reading posts about LH and other Chrysler trannys for several years.

Now what. Well, I decided to pull a dipstick out of another car and try it. The 300M dipstick is too short and has a long handle that would not clear the hood. My 1994 Dodge Ram 5.9L dipstick fits perfect. It has a short black handle and the gasket seems to fit on the tube correctly.

With a cold tranny, the dipstick from the 94 Ram reads on the add mark or about bottom of the cross-hatching. I drove to the car wash and back 10 mile roundtrip, car running the whole time during the wash. The car and tranny are at what I consider "Normal" driving operating temperature, like when you check other cars. 94 Ram Dipstick reads full right at the top of the cross-hatching as expected. Voila!

I suggest those that want to, get a 94 Dodge Ram Tranny Dipstick. Part # 52117607 (stamped on the dipstick). I'm gonna pick up one next time I'm near the dodge dealer.

Someone linked to it, Miller Tool #9336.

This is not included w/the W5A580 5-Sp trans, regardless of engine package.

Attached is the fluid expansion curve for the W5A580-NAG1.

If I recall, the problem was that when they did testing - he had to pull off from the testing run he was making at the Texas motor speedway because the tranny fluid was getting to "hot" and shut the car down or bogged it down.
Right John?

the stock power steering fluid got hot at tws. we tested another car there this last weekend with redline ps fluid and didnt have any problems at all. it was also about 10-15 deg cooler ambient air temps.

Guess he couldn't figure out how to let us know or that he can't post links yet in a 2 1/2 year old thread.

i thought it was strange, at the time, the thread starter asked that question so long ago.... I thought he of all folks wouldn't have to ask us for that.....
