Yup, there's a setup that looks like it costs about $700 but it's intent is to add S-Video inputs and audio inputs into our nav system screen for a dvd player or some other function. But this is the only system I've seen that uses the factory nav system, I can dig up the link if you're interested.. Wait, the link wasn't burried very far, here it is..

Probably because they're disabled, so it'll take a hacker to figure out if there's a software method or solder method if any method at all to enable them. The deal is ofcourse that this is off the shelf Alpine componentry that DCX is OEM'ing so it was cheaper to get this alpine box and trim it down to DCX's requirements rather than reinvent the wheel. ofcourse in the trimming process they disabled the inputs in the o/s.

Anyway it would APPEAR that the people at the avelectronic dot com link have figured out how to enable that AV input on the 300C's nav unit.. sucks having to run a SEPARATE dvd player though to get video to it.
catchMEifUcan took apart his navigation unit and found the RGB and sync lines leading to the monitor itself. They do exist, but there has been no documented evidence that any of the modded units people own are using them. I believe most units are using the AVelectronic mod.

AVelectronic most likely has the know how to splice into these lines and add a simple RCA/S-Video out off the NAV unit, but they make you buy their "Multimedia Switcher" unit also.

The actual video in mod is probably quite simple.

thanks for the input.

I suspect a (relatively cheap) simple option of a reverse camera might be popular in the 300C with NAv.

I have a touareg, and whilst video input is active if stationary, it is disabled by canbus if car is moving forward, and I believe also in reverse (but not 100% sure about reverse).

CANBUS is fully explained here. In short, it is the network that connects all the electronic devices and computers within the vehicle. Its relatively new, and is becoming quite common on cars these days.

Once people start developing modifications for the CANBUS its going to be amazing, but until then, not much is happening in regards to cracking it open and seeing how it works
