I'm open to others, but here's kind of narrowed it down to: 275/40ZR-20

I want high performance tires, I'm in So. Cal. so snow cold and rain are not a consideration. It's funny, but there's not a lot of choices in high-performance tires in this size, the choices are:

Continental extreme contact DWS
continental extreme contact DW
BFGoodrich G-Force sport comp-2

Price range on the three tires goes from $203-$243 per tire, so price is not an issue. Who has had experience with these? Right now I'm leaning toward the BFGoodrich, the rating on that tire is outstanding.

If a Michelin pilot super sport was available in this size I would buy that with no questions asked. Any input that can be offered would be helpful.

Thank you

I'm really interested in this as well. I'm reading that the best plan is a 245/45-20 on the front and a 275/40-20 on the back. The 245s up front make for nimble steering and the 275s on the back make for great traction. I hade the OEM F1s and want to upgrade... I'm leaning towards the Continental ExtremeContact DWs because they're the only ones I can get in that combo.

I'll add that I'm Ohio. I'm running a set of Blizzaks on 18" wheels in the cold weather so, like Koooop, I don't care about cold weather performance, but to me, hydroplaning is important (even though it's really really fun). I know the OEM F1s are TERRIBLE on water. I'd like something better.

Kooop, the BF Goodrich's are only W rated... I do like the price though!

Sorry to try to hijack your thread! :)

I've tried the Continental DW's...terrible traction and grip in all kinds of weather so I could not recommend them to anyone.

I have not tried the other two so I couldn't say one way or the other.

I've been running Toyo Proxes 4 275/40r20's and like them a lot. Great wet and dry traction, pretty quiet running and great wear so far.

Good luck with your choice!

That's funny that you stated that running that tire setup is the best but I guess it's either user preference, tire brand/quality, or car itself but my car felt terrible when I tried 245/45/20 for the fronts and 275/40/20 in the rears and within a week I switched to 275/40/20 all around and it was a night and day difference for me.

To the OP though, I was going to recommend the Michelin Pilot Super Sports since I have heard nothing but positive reviews about them but it does suck they are not offered in 275/40/20.

But if you really want to go with them then the closest size you could go with would be 285/35/20.

A couple members over on LXF went with that tire size all the way around with the PSS and have not had any clearance issues at all so just something to think about.

OP may wish to note that I have been running Michelin Pilot SS's on my car for quite a while.

size 275/35/20 works very well, razor sharp response and outrageous traction wet or dry.

I have run ALL major brands on this car and the Michelins are in a class by themselves. Amazingly quiet and WARRANTED for 30k miles!

Are they crazy?

How many miles do you have on then now Steve? Any major reduction in traction as they wear? What's your anticipation on tread life?

I really don't want to roll around on drag radials but I blow off any tire with even the slightest throttle tip in. Really thinking about the PSS rubber when I vaporize these new ones I just put on in about 8k.

For best all around performance, I go for round tires usually. I find that round tires provide the smoothest ride as square tires have a sharp up and down motion, especially at slow speeds. Oval shaped tires just make you sick. I've also found that square tires have extremely poor traction in the snow and ice. I suspect Wootla (http://www.300cforums.com/forums/general-discussion/196618-awful-awful-300-snow.html) had square tires on his car when the first snow fell. Oval tires don't have a good contact patch so the cornering is poor.
After all my experiences, I find that round tires give the best overall performance on any generation 300 whether you have the V6 or V8 in RWD or AWD.
Good luck! :)

PUI? (Posting under the influence?)

I will definitely go with round tires, thank you for the input.

I see you have a 2006 SRT8, so I guess my question is will these work on the GenII 300 SRT8? I Don't want any rubbing, and I don't think I want to roll the fenders at this time.

How much ride quality do we sacrifice going all the way down to a 35? The pilot super sport is a no-brainer choice, that's what I want. My suspension is stock, I only have two suspension choice settings. I didn't realize we could squeeze that size in there.

Edit: I suppose the ride quality question is kinda silly as this car rides like crap. Good thing I didn't buy it for a cushy ride.

I don't know what LXF is. maybe I'll poke around for it.

As far as a 285/35/20 goes, these wheels are 9 1/2 inch wide so the 285 I think is a bit much for this wheel. Of course I could be wrong, I really haven't seen many of these cars around to know what they look like other than bone stock.

Lots of good/useful replies here, thank you much.

And I didn't offend anybody this time!

You are most welcome, I know it will prove invaluable in your search for tires. LOL

BTW, the Conti DWS and Michelin SS are both great tires. I have Vredestein on my Jeep and those were good as well. I have Nitto Invo's on my 300 now and while not horrible, their wet traction leaves a bit to be desired.

Only W rated, LOL.

Compared to the scary tires I had on the really fast stuff in the 80s a W rating is welcome.
OK, but when I come out to SoCal and we race, and you have to stop at 168MPH while I BLOW by you going 2MPH faster, don't say I didn't tell you so! ::biggrin::

About 10k miles of fun with no visible wear. Amazing in the dry, nearly providential in the rain! If only I had bought these sooner.

Since my trans work I have been a bit hard on those back ones...

DWS's sidewall is notoriously squishy. This is from personal experience. Would not buy again.

I've run V12s as well, and was happy with their performance, but a little disappointed in the noise once I got down to around 30% left.

Personally, since I rarely drive past 7/10s anymore (for long durations anyways), I decided to go with General AS03s. Been happy with their much-longer wear and decent grip. They do slip a bit in the cold (around 1C).

I will throw in the Hankook ventus v12 evo2. I've run nittos, toyo, and of course Vredstiens. I'm very pleased with the hankooks performance and for the price a very good tire.
I ended up with the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2, 275/35/ZR20. I've had a few sets of the earlier Evo, great tire. I just need to mention, I've driven Hankooks other tires they're not in the same league as Evo and generally avoid Hancook as a brand other than the Evo.

Looking at them cowering under the wheel well, I should've gone with the 285 as that would've easily fit as someone above stated. The fellow at the tire store came up with some 285 pilot super sports for me, but for 600 bucks less went with the Hankooks.

Thank you for all the replies.

Do the 275/35 tires throw off your speedometer or anything? That size isn't listed as an option for our car, but I like the Hankooks reviews and stats. Curious what the drawback is.

Also, I see you were scared of giving me that 2MPH edge :)
