I too also need to replace the OEM Goodyears on my rear and have decided to go to 275/40 while I'm there.
(What does it matter, I was neglectfully not getting my tyres rotated anyway lol, hence why the F1's are already dead).
Pirelli Pzero's are out, they won't last long enough. I agree about the F1's being crap in the wet and I would like to improve on matters.

What's everyones opinion on the following?

Toyo Proxes T1
Atturo AZ850
Hankook Ventus
Kumho Ecsta PS91

This is pretty much all I can find

I've been running the Hankook Ventus V12 for some years now they have been outstanding. However, this set I just put on seem as though they are not a sticky as the past sets. I ran the last set of V12's on this car nearly 20,000 miles, while not bald I replaced them anyway. I ran this same tire on my CTS V as well, but I may try something different next time due to what seems to have been a change in the compound. It's still a very good tire, but it doesn't seem to hook up out of the hole as good as past sets.

Super quiet, excellent wet traction.

I can't seem to find the V12's anywhere here. The tread looks kinda 'all-season' on them though. I only need a summer tyre where I am. It's hard finding something you can get in both a 245/45 and a 275/40. I only need the 275/40 now and the 245/45 later.
Not sure how I'm going to put up with the different looking sidewalls in between purchases. With that said I wouldn't mind something with a slicker cleaner looking sidewall because I'm sick of my tyre blackener gooping up in all the textured grooves. Pirelli's have the look I want but I don't want them.

The V12 comes in 275/35/20, that's why you can't find it.

Still no tyres yet. I've been running around a lot getting quotes as well as shopping online.
What is it with the shops giving me quotes for mid range tyres of the best brands? I'm talking Goodyear Eagle RSA's, Pirelli Scorpion Verde, Kumho KU31. They consistently never mention the specific model of tyre, just the brand and the $$ quote. They don't seem to understand what I really need in terms of performance specs.

One place saw the female me walk in and gave me a quote for Chinese Hi-Fly's and nothing else, even after I told them they were for a 300 SRT!!
another place added another $25 per tyre to the quote for replacement valves attached to the TPMS or something weird like that. Dunno what that was all about so I didn't go ahead.

And they're all talking me out of getting 275's on the rear.

I considered 295's in back and 275's in front, then a small amount of thought on how the extra traction in back would affect the understeer this beast already suffers from and I ruled that out..

Well I finally got new tyres on the rear today. I went ahead and decided to be a guinea pig for Kumho Ecsta PS91's (can't find any evidence of anyone having these on their 300 SRT before). I just got 245's. I May get the second pair in 275's though since I could rotate these to the front in say 5,000km time.

First impression so far is that they're pretty decent. Nice and aggressive looking. The only issue I have is that the tread doesn't seem as wide as other tyres in the same size. Gives the tyre a slightly stretched look when I'd prefer my tyre to look a little more rounded and meaty if y'know what I mean. The 275's would probably fix this.

Wow how time flies, and here I am again shopping for tyres, this time for a full set of 4.
But my mind is set on cheap out of date stock Pirelli's for $250 each online. My friend is going to ask an old mechanic of mine if he's willing to fit BYO tyres.

My experiences walking into actual tyre shops just get stupider and stupider. The one thing they all have in common is that they think I'm asking for overkill when I ask for quotes on something as standard as Pirelli Pzero's. I mean I'm just a girl with a 6.4L shopping trolley right? Surely the mid range Asian tyres would suffice?

There's no actual current stock of Pirelli Pzero's left in NSW oddly enough. Maybe all us SRT owners went for 'overkill' and bought them all? LOL

I'm also waiting to see if anyone gets the new Pirelli Pzero PZ4's on their car. Jax have them for $425 incl fitting etc. Tyroola have them for $349 but once you factor in the fitting cost tacked on at the end it doesn't work out much cheaper. They only come in 245/45/20 as well.

Why not go for the best tyres you can buy.... for cheaper? $395 fitted and balanced. Bob Jane must match the price, nation wide, that's their policy. The michelin is a much better tyre than the pzero.

I'm pretty sure the cost of an overnight trip to South Sydney would cancel out the savings lol.
That's the thing, if I buy online and get them fitted by a third party I have to pay extra for the shipping and the fitting/balancing.
If the ones I pick are $350 online, but I get a quote from a local shop for $400, I'm going to go for the local ones because the overall cost difference will be minimal.
We don't have a Bob Jane here, nearest one is in Coffs Harbour. I think KTAS do price matching too but we don't have one of those either.

Kmart won't fit tyres you bought somewhere else. But Jax will.
Yeah I know that. KTAS will match the price if you see them cheaper online that's all (as long as the competing price online includes fitting & balancing like their prices do)

Anyway my choices so far are:
- Pirelli Pzeros on Tyroola or Tempe, 245/45 front and 275/40 rear. Old, cheap and cheerfully priced at around $260 each excl fitting (to be fitted by a 3rd party at extra cost. Tyroola has a fitment centre here but the guy only has the bare minimum equipment, he took 2 hours just to fit the last pair of Kumhos I bought!).
- Michi PS4S in either 255/45 or 275/40 (priced the same) from Jax at $450 each after the $100 cashback offer. Might get 4 of the same size and rotate them heaps.
- Giving my dud Kumho PS91's a second chance from Tyresales at $388. In their defense they do look nice in 275/40.
- Joining the masses with their fully sik skid pigs and getting staggered Nexens.
- Waiting to hear back from this other independent place about the Dunlops (and ask them to price match everything above).

The Michelin PS4S are the best tyres I've ever driven on. Full stop. Wet or dry. I used to say that about the PSS but I've moved on. The Dunlop Sport Maxx are.... well, I've had worse lets put it that way, certainly the factory Goodyear Supercar F1's are worse especially in the wet. I really can't comment on the Nexens as I've never had a set, I've heard good things and bad about them. Certainly with tyres you generally get what you pay for. It's totally up to you and what your criteria is.

You can't get the best and cheapest in the one tyre. When we (Daryl, myself and JD) got the PS4S we could only get them in 255/45/20, I didn't know you can now get them in 275/40's, certainly we would have run with that size if they had been available at the time.
