with filed patents it appears that a wireless iPod is on the way (hopefully backwards compatible to current iPods)

is it feasible to expect a FUTURE bluetooth iPod to work w/ CURRENT 300 UConnect system? (is UConnect stereo/multichannel at least?)

Your answer and a political statement follow:

No, it is not, unless there is a change to Uconnect. Bluetooth is a protocol. Uconnect is DC's incomplete implementation of telephony using the Bluetooth protocol.

It is like trying to pair a Bluetooth wireless keyboard to act like a Bluetooth wireless printer. It will identify as a keyboard and not be able to support printing actions (in this case, you cannot "call" an mp3)... non sequitur.

IF... there were Bluetooth support in/for the audio system, then you could probably use your device if it properly supported the protocol, but Uconnect would have to be expanded/modified first such that a "generic Bluetooth radio" or equivalent could be supported. In that case, you could theoretically use the ipod as a transport mechanism to upload mp3s to the car audio system, or download recorded phone conversations, memos and more.

Personally, for this particular application, I would prefer some input jacks in a glove compartment and an aux input button. Then I/you could just do what we want without having to deal with partially supported standards, firmware updates, hacking, replacing built-in dashboard electronics, and complaining to DC about what they should or should not support as so many of us are doing.

Here's an example of what to expect... Need to dial more than 10 digits today? Ooops... can't do that unless you speed-dial a phone entry. Hello. This is telephone 2005, not telephone 1980.

We make standards for a reason. If manufacturers followed them, then things would work the way they were meant to work. People would be happier and the courts would have less of a workload.

My .02 - YMMV

Bluetooth iPod connected to UConnect = not going to happen, as developerx already detailed and I concur. As we already know two different companies are already developing an iPod connector for the 300 complete with steering-wheel button control over it and we'll have to wait for that. Optimistic estimate is next month on the first availability from one of the two companies.

where else - the usual apple rumor sites ;)

go to appleinsider.com and search on "wireless ipod"

wireless car audio is mentioned as an application

Thanks Raka,
Looks like they are playing with the idea which will give it some very cool uses. Even if not for our Uconnect system.
