Hey all, I bought my c with about 5000 miles on it, and for some reason the front brakes make like a crunching sound when ever the car stops. It does it about 80% of the time. The dealer says everthing is ok, the one dealer said I got tire spray on the rotor and thats why. He said to use the brakes hard and it will go away. So I did and still doing it, and its really loud when it does it. Anyone have this falult, and can anyone help me out. Also does the C have ceramic front pads?

I'm not having any brake problems like what you describe. I have noticed the 'click' in th pedal more often than not.I don't know about the material used for the pads, but you might try cleaning the rotors with a spray can of brake cleaner. You may, as suggested by the stealership, have damaged the surface of the rotors with the tire spray, requiring that the rotors be resurfaced.

Check out the "bedding in" procedure by Zeckhausen (a site sponsor) in the brake forum. I did this with about 14k on my car and it worked great - better grip and firmed up the pedal. If that doesn't help, and you still have issues, take the service mgr for a ride and let him tell you that it's not a problem...if they won't fix it, find a new dealer.

The stock pads are ceramic (I'm told anyway) - and specific for the 300C/Magnum. I have 17k and some "on-track" time, and just took it in for fronts this week, dealer didn't even stock them (they called them a "high performance" ceramic pad) - I just say they are stock 300C pads...

More then likely your discs are warped? I had the same sound, but I first learned it on my van (Chrysler Grand V) Do you ride your brakes? Change them out and see if that is the problem, it should be gone. Mine was exchange free of charge (Warranty work)

uch: I had the scrunching sound at 1000miles and reported it ...the dealer blew it off as "new compound in the pads". When I took it in for it's 1st oil change I demanded they check again...rotors and pads were toast. They had to replace everything. THis time the dealer told me "hard spots" in the pads compound. Either way, at 9000 for the next oil change I reported that the scrunching sound is still there...especially in stop and go driving. No grinding, no squealing, but a scrunch sound as the car stops. They are going to have to check it again at the next oil change...if it is a problem, it is THERE problem.
