I've been reading some of your good posts on this forum and I decided to join. Anyway, this is my first post with a little back of background! I've always been a Jeep fan and I thought I'd never buy a regular car. After the AC Compressor burnt out in both the Grand Cherokee and Liberty (Weird shit I tell you, both of them), I took them at the dealer to have them replaced. In the lot they has a few 300C so I scheduled a test drive for an 2006 model.

To make a story short, I took a test drive on Monday, I liked the car so much that by Tuesday we closed the deal and I had the car by Saturday. I usually don't buy vehicles that quickly, but wow, what a great vehicle! I live in Ann Arbor, MI so I got the 2006 300C AWD model at a great price I might say, for this much of a car! Been driving it everyday since and I can't sit still at work, I just want to go and drive around! Took a couple of co-workers to lunch the other day and they were amazed at what a great ride it is.

Two questions that I have are:

How many miles is the break in period?

How many miles to change the oil during the break in period?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Its great to be a part of this forum!

Look in your owners manual for the break in period. There is a section in there that
tells you how to drive the car for the first 300 miles or so. It tells you what to avoid
doing, and what you can/should do to break it in. It will then tell you what you can
do after that 300 mile period. Look it up, its in there waiting for you...

The oil change is up to you. Alot of people change it for the first time at about
1000 miles, and then every 3000 miles after that.

Some change the oil at 500 miles, and then again at 1000 miles, and then every
3000 miles after that.

I am changing mine at 1000 miles with regular oil, then 3000 after that, again with
regular oil, and after that, I am switching to synthetic.

Why? Because I want the valves to seat properly. Is this all in my head? Maybe.
But it has worked for me for every car I have ever owned from new, and I have gone
well over 150,000 miles on all my cars with no oil related problems, so I am sticking
to what has worked for me.

Alot of people will change the oil the first time with synthetic, and keep using
that from that point on. It all depends on what you want to do. There is no
wrong way to do it, as long as you change the oil every 3000 miles with new oil
and a new filter.

There is no hard and fast rule to go by.

Here's a quote from RG61 Ralph Gilles the designer of the car you are driving:

It is a natural process of everything being in very tight tolerance and some good old fashion ring seating. Some claim they feel it by 3000 (on the 5.7) others at 6000 it depends on your driving style. We have consistently seen motors opening up (breaking in) at approximately 3000. The 6.1 is a little different as it is shipped with Mobil1 synthetic, so it logically takes a little longer. I just know by 6000 it is most certainly at its theoretical max.

Oil Change

Do you guys intend to use the dealer for the oil changes or will a local Jiffy Lube work? I know it uses 0W-40 Mobil 1 but not sure if a local quick lube place will carry it.

Just wanted to add Mercedes uses a special break-in period oil that you are not suppose to change until the first service. (About 15k KMS, Synthetic Mobil 1 blend) Not sure if 300Cs also come with special breakin oil(I know it's not synthetic), but may be worth checking out.

The Tech chief told me they use a break-in oil that we are not intend to change before first service.
In Switzerland all service up to 60'000km / 6 years are included in the car price.

First service @ 12'000km.
