I went and checked out a 2013 300c with the 5.7 in it, the car was beautiful other than a louder than usual tap coming from the driver side of the engine. I'm well aware of the infamous hemi tick, my current 06 300 has it as well as my dad's 04 ram but, this tapping was coming from the drivers side of the engine. It got followed the rev curve of the engine but under when I got on it on the test drive you couldn't really hear it. My worry is that a lifter may actually be bad as the car's oil level was fine. I'm not sure how long the car sat before I went and looked at it as I've heard that when the cars sit for a while it can take time for the lifters to get good oil again. The dealer said they'd look into it and get back to me about it but even after consulting my mechanic I'm not so sure about what to expect. I've seen many posts and videos about it being possible lifter/camshaft failure along with others saying it may just be a manifold leak. The car idled fine and had plenty of power with no misfires or anything really tell tale about the tapping. If anyone has some insight or advice from their own experience I'd greatly appreciate it.

Well change of plans, heard back from the dealership and they want an extra 2k to fix the lifter before i even buy the car and thats not really worth it to me. My other option is a 2006 SRT8 which I'm going to look at tomorrow.

If you didn't buy that one, I'd say you probably did good. I bought my Grandson's 06 300CSRT8 (164K on it at the time) for what he owed on it because no one would give him anything for it as a trade in. It had the exact same noise you've described and it sounded like a bad lifter. This is what I was hoping for.....an easy inexpensive fix. Not so though. After some serious troubleshooting, I finally decided to tear it down......one flat roller lifter, nine other pitted, scored, galled, or out of round roller lifters and the cam was complete toast. I ended up installing an aftermarket performance cam, all new lifters, and did a valve job. Turns out the oil change place had been putting the wrong weight, type and amount of oil in it for quite some time (Walmart oil changes done religiously every 3000 miles) and this all but ruined the whole valve train. I flushed the oiling system and did another oil/filter change after only about 1500 miles. I still got some metal powder on the magnetic drain plug at that point. Oil pressure is still good so I don't think there is any serious damage to the lower end, except maybe increasing some of the bearing clearances. Anyway, it now runs like a "raped ape" and, as said above is an absolute blast to drive. I now have 172K on it, have taken it on several trips and now use it as my daily driver (mostly because of it's high miles) so I can preserve my other two lower mileage Hemi's. Below are a few pix of the damage to the cam/lifters and the tear down:

Wow that's pretty unfortunate. As far as I know from the place I bought the car from the previous owner took pretty good care of the car and the carfax did check out pretty well with oil changes every 3000 or so miles and regular maintenance. The first thing I did when I took it home was do an oil change and it came out looking pretty good with no metal on the drain plug or in the oil itself and so far it's been pretty quiet regarding ticking or anything. Every so often before it warms up it can be kinda noisy but usually after warming up some it smooths out and runs fine. It does have about 140k on it now and I'm planning on doing a full tune up soon and getting a CAI to compliment the SLP exhaust I put on it. Like I said in my last post on here so far I'm very happy with the car and it's really been a blast to drive.
