C8 Lockpick

I've purchased a C8 Lockpick and installed it however it does not work. When I turn the car on the screen doesn't start up, none of the A/C controls work and the blind spot monitoring says it's unavailable in the EVIC. When I remove it everything reverts to working normally. This is a Right Hand Drive 2012 SRT8.

I'd like to know if anyone has installed a C8 lockpick in a Gen 2 RHD car and had it working?

Thanks for looking.

PS. I've installed a good number of lockpicks in Gen 1 and other CJD vehicles so it's not my first install. And double checked that all dip switches etc were correct.

Edit: Or info on any other brand of lockpick that works with RHD.

Perhaps this might be an appropriate time for me to add qualification of what I definitely know doesn't work. It's the C8 in a 2012 right hand drive Australian SRT8.

Not all lockpicks by Coastaletech are created equal. I had a 2005 5.7 with an Adapter version, version 4 lockpick that worked reasonably well on an REP mygig except for the nav voice causing problems getting it to come out of the right hand front speaker on our Au cars. I tried sorting it, without going too deep into what I did, including having a willing Service Manager at a dealer try to flash the amplifier with later software as well as trying later amplifiers from later model cars (because 2005 models never came from the factory with the later mygigs, I put in a 2010 mygig which had full ipod control) but could never get the nav guidance voice working properly. It was no problem living without it, I just disabled that and everything else about the lockpic worked fine.

I also had a 2008 Dodge Nitro to which I also installed a 2010 REP mygig. I used both a version 3 and a version 4 ordinary lockpick in this car. Note this is not the same lockpick as in the 2005 300c. And both worked fine in this Nitro. My son also had a Dodge Nitro, but a 2007 model which came with a dealer fitted, not factory, REP mygig. Just to complicate things further this was an earlier version mygig which didn't have full ipod control but was an original REP as against the later mygigs I had which were converted REW's. ;). There was something about the lockpick in the 2007 Nitro that didn't fully work properly but I can't remember exactly what it was but I do recall it was insignificant compared to some of my mygig and lockpick experiences. Anyway, these version 3 and 4 lockpicks worked pretty much ok.

I then tossed a spanner in the works and bought a CHR550 lockpick. At the time I was excited about it's apparent extra functionality and tried it in the 2008 Dodge Nitro, you see I had also installed a killer set of 9 inch headrest DVD's in this car, and seriously wired them beautifully so that I could have almost every conceivable option like having a dvd in any of the units and throwing the picture to the next dvd player or all of the players and also I wanted ipod vids to play.... I wanted everything, still do. That's why I always had higher end sound systems, like $800 for just the front sets of competition splits and a back seat full of amps and boot full of subs. This was earlier cars not the CJD's, for which I just wanted factory integration hence I lowered myself down to the mygig. Hey, I might be old but I still like quality sound.

For some reason my ears no longer work as perfectly as they did, so a bit of old age and that has allowed me to be very satisfied with this HK factory system without the need to delve into the never ending cycle of SQ only governed by the depth of your hip pocket. I'm raving so... back to lockpicks.

The CHR550 never worked on our mygigs, early or late model mygigs nor early or later model cars. (altho obviously I didn't try it on the 2005 300c). So it was back to the version 3 and 4 lockpicks. And of course I tried all firmware upgrades from Coastaletech). I also found in my experience Coastaletech only ever responded if they thought you were in USA. Not even a response otherwise, altho once I did get a form response which was basically a waste of time.

It seemed as if once lockpicks appeared with SAT and TV tabs it all turned to crap for Australian RHD cars.

Enter Gen 2. I discovered they'd updated to C8 lockpicks. So I bought one and gave it a try on my 2012. It was as described in my original post of this thread. It almost turned all the electrics to crap. Hardly anything worked properly and I thought I'd fried the car. Fortunately it all came good when I disconnected.

The point of all this is to note... 2013 and onwards are different. As noted elsewhere I can get the Engineering Mode in my RB6 (note, not an RB5) and I don't really need a lockpick for watching dvd on the move. (but I still want one for a front camera).

C8 is redundant. Now it's CHR558 and I haven't tried one of those and I'm burned out after all the drama, not to mention dead Gen 2's with early software in the Diablosport Trinity's the stress of plugging those in tipped me over the edge and I'll sit back and watch for a while if no-one minds.

Cheers.

The problems are all in Coastaletech's domain. The CAN commands or PID addresses must be different down there, so the Lockpicks can't intercept and modify the data stream the way that they expect to.

The only way to fix it would be for Coastaletech to add support for Aus hardware, since the problem is with the software loaded in their boxes. I'm sure it would be a super easy fix, but they won't do it for some reason. I'm sure if they thought they could sell 1,000 units over there, it would be a different story!

As far as the SRT's go, the Lockpicks are even a little wonky with US vehicles.

From CoastalEtech.com

Hi Al,

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately at this time we do not test any of our devices on non North American Vehicles and have no empirical data regarding compatibility or feature use in non-US spec vehicles. We do not guarantee compatibility with Non-North American vehicles or North American vehicles used outside the US/Canada.
Again thank you for your interest and have a great day.

I've talked to The Real Jordan before, too, and asked him if he could add SRT performance pages to the Lockpick (which is completely possible) and he told me, "No way!"

I'm assuming that they'd rather not get sued by Chrysler!

He's a nice enough guy, and we talked for a while about the new Lockpick that came out earlier this year.

Hopefully they'll get that sorted out for ya'll down there. It's a great mod to install.

I thought Daryl had said someone in Melb fitted a C8 to a Gen 2 and it worked. He was supposed to post about it but I guess that fell by the wayside. It was then that I had a light bulb moment and realised that the C8 I installed in my car was put into an RB6 that has since been replaced. I'm saying it's possible it didn't work because it was a dud head unit. I've no news further than that.

Just waiting for Daryl to confirm what I've said before I say anything like..... 'I'm not sure a dud head unit (dud in that it sometimes didn't display the map) would cause the issues I had when I plugged the C8 in'. But electricals and electronics is not my forte.... so.
