Also looks like you have the old leaky type intake hose with orange turbo seal.

I noticed on the receipts when I picked up the car last saturday (and since emailed the owner about various things), its had a new swirl flap motor fitted 3 months ago ...is that a good thing?

Yes but the old leaky intake pipe may cause the new one to fail like the old one did.
