A “Best Buzz” doesn’t always mean best sales

Posted Jan 24, 2005, 8:45 AM ET by Walter J Keegan Jr @

A company called AutoVIBES tracks an automobile’s “buzz” based on in-market vehicle buyers’ reactions and awareness to a new vehicle nameplate three-six months prior to entering the market through nine months of vehicle sales. Number one and two on the list shouldn’t be hard to guess… the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum. The Nissan Titan, despite slower-than-Nissan-wanted-without-incentives sales was four on the list and the no-sales-before-incentives GTO was fifth. I suppose the “buzz” around the GTO was huge, it was on every magazine cover and the Titan was the “Truck of the Year”. It just goes to show a buzz doesn’t always mean sales. The full top-ten list is at the link.

1. Chrysler 300
2. Dodge Magnum
3. BMW 6-Series
4. Nissan Titan
5. Pontiac GTO
6. Chevrolet Colorado
7. BMW X-3
8. Chevrolet Equinox
9. Mazda 3
10. Cadillac SRX
