cracked rim update

The rims cracked on the edge of the inside of the rim and the cracked starts to go across the middle of the rim thus leaking air. I could see if I hit a huge pothole, but there is no damage to the tires , so if I had hit something that bad wouldn't the tire be damaged or the alignment be off??? Plus this hasn't happend just once, this is the second time on a different wheel on a different part of the car. Its the alloy rims that come with the 300C. Chrysler doesn't even want to address this which is alarming as if this is a problem , its a very serious one. I know the Sebring cars had a problem with the rims a few years ago ,,, they were cracking too, soft metal they said...Hope this is not a repeat!!!

Has anyone had a cracked rim on the 300C?? I have had 2 in the past month and a half....
The wheels are a very strong, lightweight aluminum alloy (23lbs). This is the first post I have heard of an OEM 18" rim cracking - let alone 2. As mentioned, the chrome is plastic cladding. Is that where the crack is?

Like Kings, if the wheel is cracked, I suspect over torquing of the lug nuts. Do you have photos?

not at the lug nuts

the cracking starts at the edge odf the inside of the rim and starts to travel across the base of the rim to the other side ( which is the outside of the rim}
You have to take the tire off to see the crack running across the rim,

Such a crack is a safety concern. When you say Chrysler does not want to deal with it - are you referring to the dealer or the manufacturer?

There was a problem with this rim with regards to salt corrosion last winter. DCX (the manufacturer) has been very good about replacing rims under warranty.

BTW - Broken Rims - that's an odd choice for a forum name. Do you plan to post on other topics . . . broken windshields; broken trannys; broken arrows? j/k

cracked up! lol

I am taking the car back to where I bought it tomorrow. Shame cause I have a dealer right across the street from me. They said I must have hit something ,, but wouldn't there be damage to the tire???or even the car?? The dealer even said there was nothing wrong with the tire..Well the original dealer said that the service manager would have to see it and right up a report.. Question.....I was just reading about the pitting of the rims.. My rims were made in 2004... Could the pitting have caused the cracking of the rim??? The crack on my first rim seems to have started under 1 of the balance weights on the inside wall of the rim.....

I have. I have the factory 300C rims. It was cracked on the inside on the edge where the rubber meets the rim. I had to buy a new rim because it would not hold any air. I thought my wife may have hit a pothole or something. Have only had the one tho.

Word to the Wise

Word to the wise, keep an eye on this thing with the rims... I have never in my life ever had a rim crack on me,,,,let alone 2 in less than 3 months in all the years I have been driving.....

Because of my driving style, I check rims, tires and pressures every week. No problems so far.

I've seen lots of cracked and bent rims in the past - especially on rally cars.

Same here

Same problem here - 2005 300 with 19,000 miles. Rim cracked on the inside edge (not the outside where it would hit a curb, etc). The crack is about 1" long, perpendicular to the direction of travel and about 1/32" wide.

The local dealer says it's my fault, claiming I hit a curb, pothole or something -- even though there are no dents or other evidence of damage!

Out $250, and I'm pissed. Anybody want to join me in a class action suit??
