Araldite or Super glue?

 

Used super glue, seemed to melt the plastic a bit, which may or may not help.

What is a reo? A Aussie word for treaded rod? What size bolt did you use?

Reo is just short for reinforcement as in reo bar for concrete. Not sure of the thread size, just something that is a reasonably tight fit is good enough, have also used a roll pin the first time I did this. The main thing it to be careful that it is not so tight that you split the plastic.

I'm sure a few of us have come across a broken door handle on oue of our cars.

Here is the problem, stupid design, how flimsy is the thing and hollow too boot:.......

The same thing just happend to me this morning.

How is your fix holding up?

How do you remove the handdle and re-install it?

fix coI mpleted

Just completed this fix to my driver rear door. Worked great. I used a snug fitting all thread along with JB Quick (quick drying JB Weld). When observing the hole where the all thread is to be placed, I noticed it did not have to be bent on my '05 300C. A straight fit and better than new. Thanks guys.....

 

Bent or straight screw depends on where the break is. I have done 5 handles this way now including 3 on the same car, only one left to go on that one now.

There are some good threads about on how to change the handles and even a couple of youtube videos if you go looking. I just wanted to cover the repair as an alternative to changing the handle for a new one.
