Look at those gains! And I have to tell you the HEMI is screaming now and the Magnum goes like a scalded cat. Amazing . . . The baseline was with a Borla cat back and Volant intake.

The guys at "LA Performance Division" in Chatsworth did a GREAT job with install--first class all the way--I highly reccomend this shop. Ask for "Al"-he's the boss and is EXTREMELY helpful. They are Corvette guys but Al is buying a 300C for his wife and LOVES the LX cars!

There is one small issue that I have to share--the "check engine" light is now on all the time. I called Dynatech and they told me that when you combine the headers with a high-flow cat back the flow is SO GOOD that the computer sees the cats as not working even though they ARE! Until someone can crack the computer I doubt this can be fixed. The car runs GREAT, so I'm not all that concerned . . .

Great work, thanks for posting some numbers, as I predicted in another post the torque gains are huge when headers added.

Looks like it is pointless to rev past 5,000 rpm unless we had a manual shift, auto sticks are not great for staying "on the cam".

I had a 90 Lexus and the check engine light stayed on when I replaced the instrument cluster, I put a piece of black tape over the projection from the underside of the binnacle and voila! Maybe a small square of black tape on the inst. panel will help .

Holy hell thats SRT 8 torque numbers! Anyone know if the heads(I know they are ported and flowed) are the same on the SRT 8. Id be interested in seeing a set of these on the big 6.1 Hemi!
You will, but I predict the gains won't be as high. The 6.1 has better flowing manifolds than the 5.7 to begin with.

"Engine breathing was increased with new high-flow cylinder heads, a specially designed intake manifold, and exhaust “headers” with individual tubes encased in a stainless steel shell, all unique to the 6.1-liter Hemi. Larger diameter valves and reshaped cylinder ports in the heads maximize air flow. The intake manifold was designed with larger diameter runners for higher-speed tuning. Exhaust is routed through a larger-diameter (2.75-inch vs. 2.5-inch) exhaust system with 3.5-inch chrome tips."

The headers were $1150 on a "group buy" including shipping.

The install and Dyno time came to $550--and it took an ENTIRE day. Installing the headers without a lift and a buddy seems to be impossible! The guys at LA Performance say this was THE most difficult header installation they have ever done--a real B!TCH when compared with GM stuff!

So, $1700 total. Sure, a lot of money but the gains are unreal--over 30 hp and 50 ft/lbs of torque at the WHEELS!

Some guys have spent more than this on wheels and tires, so the price seems OK to me. I spend my money where it counts!

$1700 for the power gains you got is worth every penny. :D

anyone know the conversion of advertised torque numbers i would like to know what is his real world numbers after the mod not just the rear wheel hp numbers. I know rear wheel is what counts but i want to know whats the real world bragging rights number if its 340hp 390lbs advertised rating without the headers whats the advertised rating with, can someone help me out please. but acually its higher than 340/390 because he has a volant and something else so can someone get his pre amount number 350 or 360 hp and 400lbs around there i would think and add the header. This information would be greatly appriaciated because i am thinking with a volant a corsa exaust when ever they finish making it and a header change and a jet series 2 chip all for about 3000 dollars you should out perform a SRT 8 and still have a warranty. just speculation but intreging.

There's no real way to know unless you run it on an engine dyno. But since he ran it on a dyno before the header addition we can guess it's approximately 17%HP drive train loss and 22.5% drivetrain torque loss. (counting the borla and CAI unfortunetly)

So if 17% and 22.5% is the guesstimate with his increase from 281 to 314HP and 301 to 356 TQ, he's make around: 378BHP and 457TQ.

NICE!

Don't know, depends on what the chipmaker used to benchmark with, what conditions they used to correct for non-warranty breaking performance increases. With my experience I'd say minimal. I'm sure it would help the numbers but I'd wait for the ECU to be cracked and have a professional dyno "hemi" tuner adjust fuel and spark for optimal performance.

With the number just posted for a simple header, CAI, and exhaust swap, these hemi's are going to see magnificant power with minor head, cam, and intake work. 450/525 streetable HP/TQ probably.

The way i am looking to go is jet chip level 2, corsa exaust it suppose to be the best when it comes out (becasue they studied the magnaflow and the borla then they created theirs), volant intake also try and use some sort of ram air straight to the volant for real cool and more air, supermaxx headers, but i think the srt killer header made from the same company but built for a more free flowing cat. definite not ca legal its a good thing i live in the east. Hopefully all this will get me where i need to be an almost srt8 but still have my warranty

Just got off the phone with Chris from HeaderSystems.com in Dallas. He will have four sets of DynaTech Supermaxx Headers $1395.00 Free Shipping at the end of May. And if your close to Dallas they will install for $250.00 and since you are picking up they will knock off $60.00 for an install price of $1585.00 I am not in any way affiliated with them just passing on what looks like a great deal!

Blessings,

Look around 3600 RPM and you will see a 80+ RWHP gain and at 3800 RPM you have a 80+ RWTQ gain. That is insane!!! Almost looks too good to be true. You're also leaning out. You should get a dyno run at lower RPM's to see how lean it is down low. Also when it get's cold you might go leaner. Is the engine getting hot??? How about on inclines?

this all great!!!!!! but what about the ckeck engine light?
doesn't it affect the warranty in any way since we would never be able to tell when there is a REAL problem in the car?!!!!!!!!!

I am running the same headers and have had no problems with the check engine light coming on, I am also running a Jetchip stage 2 chip, and Borla exhaust.
