A secret computer function you can access if you know how, but the compant isn't going to tell you how. For instance, on a BMW 5 series, if you hold down the check control button, wait 5 seconds, then press the tripometer reset button, you can scroll through all sorts of secret diagnostic functions (a digital display of the engine temperature, digital speedometer that was accurate, not calibrated to overstate speed, amount of gas in your tank, a lights/needle test that would take the car blink all the idiot lights and take the speedo and tach up to the max, and a bunch of other stuff). This wasn't in the manual or anything, somebody just figured it out.

"Press Nav and Music buttons on steering wheel and hold them pressed for about 10 seconds. You will see advanced EVIC display. They you can navigate through them using up and down arrows. Some thread here had explanation of all the codes there. Search MinR or MinL to find it." Courtesy of another forum member.

Here's what appears to be the first of the posts on the EVIC "Easter Eggs", provided more than a year ago by fourm member romli:

If you hold down the brake pedal and the clutch pedal while press the NAV joystick to the beat of "Born to be wild" while pushing the turn signal stalk down to the beat of "Wipeout" only to the first detent simultaneously for exactly 42 seconds the EVIC will allow you to play a hidden level in Super Mario Bros. 3.....And I think it gives you 2 extra lives too.

I read a post recently indicating that if you hold the ESP button down for five seconds while turning ESP off it "completely" disengages traction control on the SRT8s. Urban myth perhaps????
Sounds like an urban legend to meee, have you tried it?
I think vvv90's theory sounds like urban legend too, but I'm gonna try it and see if I can get to that elusive level :wink1:

ESP can be completely turned off on 2006 SRT-8's, but not on the 2005's.

Come on now. Don't lead these impressionable younguns down the wrong path. It doesn't play Super Mario. It plays Blath Sabbath backwards and unleashes deep dark baaaaaaaad messages like: don't speed, never ever turn off your ESP, save your meats. LOL

I would not be suprised if there was a "backdoor"

BMW M3 requires and elborate but effect shut down proceedure. You can't even rev the motor past 5500 rpm (redline is in the 7000 range) and the car does not perform at the same level ( does reach full power enrichment modes.)

Last time i did this it was turn key to on press the sport mode button once then press and hold ESP for ten seconds (eactly-like stop watch exactly)wait for gauge cluster to flash confirmation of ESP. ABS light will also light. Turn key to off position and IMMEDIATELY restart car. Warnign light will remain lit for about 20 seconds in which case you have 20 secs to get the car started and begin the run on the dynop before it will auto reset. If left at idle the pcm resets.

Elaborate ... overly elaborate ... but they rall dont want you to defeat these systems :)
