Extended Warranty Details
Perfect timing Benh. I just got the details of my extended warranty for my SRT8 in the mail yesterday. It's called "DaimlerChrysler Canada Inc. (DCCI) Service Contracts". The plan number is #365 and has a $0 deductable. It's for 5 years/100,000 km's (60,000 miles). The plan is honoured throughout Canada & the United States.
In a nutshell the plan covers the following:
1. Roadside Assistance - includes towing, flat tire assistance, out of fuel, dead battery jump start, lockout assistance.
2. Trip & Travel - if more than 200 km's away from home, up to $100 per day of hotel, meals or return transportation to a maximun of $300.
3. Rental Vehicle - if vehicle must be kept overnight, up to $50 per day, 5 days maximum.
4. Gold or Gold Plus - Covers electrical system, brakes, ABS, steering, engine cooling system, AC, clutch (N/A I guess for the SRT8), front suspension, rear suspension. body (mirrors, door glass tracks, lock cylinders, door handles, engine mounts & on and on), fuel system (fuel pump, tank, throttle body, lines, hoses, tubes & on and on)
5. Powertrain - Engine & all internal parts (too numerous to mention, but pretty much everything), transmission/transfer case, drive shaft assembly, U joints, axle housing, all internal parts and on and on.
6. Basic Maintenance - Free oil changes (up to 20 for my plan), tire rotation.
7. Tire Road Hazard - Pro rated of course. Note: Most tire makers don't offer road hazard anymore.
The plan can be transferred to all subsequent owners at no charge. Plan is
not cancellable except during the first 60 days. There is a disclaimer, "DCCI reserves the right to cancel your Service Contract at any time should it be discovered your vehicle is ineligible, or is involved in an accident to the extent of becomming an insurance write-off, or the contract information provided to DCCI has been misrepresented".
Total cost for me was $3260 Canadian plus tax. Assuming the oil changes cost around $100 each and I'll be getting 20 over 100,000 km's @ 5,000 km's per change, that alone is worth $2,000.
For me this plan is what I wanted as it gives peace of mind knowing pretty much everything is covered except of course wear items (wiper blades, brake pads etc.). Hope this helps.

EDIT (ADDENDUM): Like anything you get what you pay for. While it may seem all warranty plans are alike, nothing could be further from the truth. Beware of third party warranty plans at discount prices. They're usually scammers. Several years ago my wife purchaced one of these plans after buying a used car. They have nice names like "Universal Warranty" and the like. The price was very reasonable and we thought everything would be covered. Things like the water pump wern't covered as it's not considered part of the "powertrain". Her transmission failed & we took it in for repairs. We had to wait for an adjuster over a week and he told the transmission shop to "just do the minimum" when fixing it. I take it he meant just fill it with saw dust and send us on our way. The transmission guy told the adjuster to pound salt and that he ran an honest company. In our case we got a new transmission, others I'm sure got the shaft. I just shake my head when I see claims of people here saying they got these fantastic third party warranties for next to nothing. Live & learn I suppose.
