My fellow Canadians: (Spoken by Lester B Rambit)
A short time ago the topic of Canadian Gas Guzzler Tax came up in another unrelated thread. As I recall Mickyjohn and someone from BC said we didn't have one and I was fine with that.
I was at the dealership today & I mentioned this to my salesman, who once again told me we do indeed have one. He told me the tax for the SRT8 was $1200. This got me to thinking that perhaps it's a province to province tax and after searching around that seems to be the case.
The tax is dependant on the Highway Fuel Use Ratings (Litres / 100 Km) and is broken into seven categories. This tax has been in effect since 1992. Click here to see the table. I was shocked to see that it goes all the way up to $7000. It does not apply to trucks (thank God) but does to SUV's.
I'm not happy to read about this, but I understand I guess. It's probably something to do with Ontario having the most cars per capita or the most dense (not the other meaning
) population or something along those lines. I'd be interested to see if any other provinces have this tax, but I can't be bothered to search it out so I'll just pay it like a good citizen.
