Alright folks, long time lurker, very rare poster...
Love the site and all the info it offers but I am having a problem solving a few issues with my car (2006 300c srt8). The other day, one of the bulbs on the low beams turned pink. It now looks like my car has pinkeye. Friggin sweet... so I started shopping online to find bulbs and looked at a few of the approved vendors, and called a few and no one seemed to be able to answer my questions as they were sales reps and not mopar technicians / enthusiasts.
Here is my question to all:
The d1s bulbs that are standard on the srt8 - they are more expensive then most other bulbs. I guess its just newer technology compared to the others which have been around a while. Do I have to stick with a d1s bulb? Can I change from the stock 35 watt ballast / bulb to a 55watt ballast / bulb? will it fit in the projector housing? Is it a huge difference over stock 35 watts?
I also figured I'd do the foglights at the same time as I have found a kit from Vvme for 39.99, with h10 size bulbs.
can I use this to do the fogs? Do I need the relay harness?
I've done my homework and know that the fogs cant go higher then 35watts due to heat, but what about the low-beams? And instead of just getting new low beam d1s 35watt bulbs, does switching it out for a d1s 55watt Vvme kit work with the srt8 projector lenses?
is this a reputable brand? I've done some search and couldn't find any dirt on them.
for what its worth, I plan on going to either 5k or 6k... I dont like the look of yellow and think its a good compromise so I can actually see at night or in the rain.
My car just started doing the same thing tonight! The front right HID is completely pink! I have a Heritage Edition that came stock with HIDs and am wondering if it's worth just upgrading the pair or just finding the same thing to throw in. Time to do some research...
It's too cold out atm and I don't have a garage so changing them out myself is a no. I'll also get noticed driving on and off base on night shift quickly by the gate guards so there isn't any time to waste waiting for mail ordered parts. Bleah...
The thing that annoys me is that I've been searching for 2 days now about DDM VVME, HIDGATE, xenondepot, etc... and there are all sorts of mixed reviews. Some real answers from those who know and have dealt with the online vendors would be wonderful. I have no problem wiring and ripping my front bumper off, hell I'm installing nitrous in her right now, but when it comes to the HID ballasts and bulbs I don't know which direction to go... :smashfrea
Last thing I wanna do is waste my $$ or have to wait 6 weeks to get lights I need now...
to answer your questions, i dont think you can change the factory ballast to 55w since if i am not mistaken does have different wiring but that doesnt mean it isnt possible since you would always do some rewiring to make regular 9006 bulbs work but i honestly would not go through all that trouble just to upgrade from a 35w ballast to 55w...
as for the fogs, either 9145 or 9005 will work just fine in the fogs and yes going over 35w is not such a good idea but i have heard of a few who have 55w in the fogs with no issues of melting so its one of those risks i also would rather not take. and no you do not need a relay harness or anti flicker caps for the fogs but i suppose it wouldnt hurt either way to have them just for insurance.
as for differences between 35w and 55w, 55w will be brighter but i would just stick with 35w so that you dont attract too much attention from the law and as for the brand that you asked about, i have never heard of that brand so cant comment on that.
the 8k bulbs are blue, more dim then the 6k bulbs. if its 35watts, it will work with the stock ballasts. No need to upgrade unless u wanna go 55watts.
I grew impatient waiting for a response so I bit the bullet and bought the ddm d1s 5k bulbs for lows and the ddm 35watt 5k HID H10 kit for the foglights with the error code eliminators. Not sure if I needed them or not but I figured better to have them then wait another 2 days for parts to arrive and go through the hassle of ripping the bumper off / apart, not to mention more $$ wasted on shipping.
All of it shipped to my door, 2nd day air for 112.08... Cant really complain about that, not to mention the kit comes with a lifetime warranty. I just hope everything works properly and I dont have mismatched color issues like others have reported.
we shall see how this all works out I guess. Here in FL, its cold but not as bad as where u are, lol... I'll update with pics upon arrival of all the equipment and pics of the install / end result.
On a side note... since i'll have HIDs in the fogs, Does this mean I need projector foglight housings to avoid blinding the crap out of people? or is it not an issue being so low?
i have heard nothing but positive things from ddm hids but i bought mine from hidgate and only issues i have had with them since a year of getting them is that i had to replace a couple ballasts but other than that no issues and having hids in the fogs might blind people on the road but only if you have them aimed too high. i had to adjust my fogs when i installed hids in them cause they were pointed a bit too high so i adjusted that screw behind the fogs and pointed them a bit down so that they dont blind people and so far no issues with blinding at all since i did that but no you dont really need projectors
Damn you ddm tuning... fedex received the order info tuesday, picked 2 day air... package wasn't shipped till wednesday
ahhhhh!! I hate ordering from the internet cause I want instant gratification.
Oh, and the drivers side d1s bulb that is going on the fritz turned from pink to purple then it started to not work at all, then it flickered, and now its turned to blue. Does this sound like a bulb problem or a ballast problem to anyone?
I bought a pair of replacement bulbs for my stock HIDs. They were D1S bulbs (6k) from DDM. I installed them and they worked really well for about two days. The driver sider bulb went out so I swapped the pair around and it still didn't work on the driver side. Both bulbs worked on the passenger side but neither on the DS.
Now today the passenger side is out. Both bulbs look fine as they should since they're hardly even used! So the troubleshooting begins. I swapped the bulbs around when one side worked and both bulbs were good telling me that one side (DS) had a problem. I swapped around all of the fuses and checked all of the lights around the entire car. Everything works including fogs, high beams, DRLs, turn signals, only the HID lows are out.
My only guess now is that the ballasts went out? I know nothing about auto electronics so I guess I'm buying this kit to see if I can rip both headlights apart to wire these up and test it out.
hey everyone, i am a newbie on here, i recently purchased hids from ddm with the error code elimintor. my low beams flicker at times when the car is off or on and at times the headlights will turn off or even won't turn on. i have to mess with the lights by turning them on and off. i called ddm support and had to wait almost 20 mins, just for the guy to tell me that it might be my drl and that i have to disable it. if that didn't work to call them back for further trouble shooting. has anyone had any issues with this and if so, what did you do to correct it. i have a 2006, 300 limited.
Thanks,
jorge
