HI!
Brand new to the forum, and its awesome!
I just bought a 2006 300C SRT8 with 117k on it from a one owner.
I love it, but really want to get into the modding already!
For a car with this amount of miles, what are my options? Can I just do whatever? I want it to keep being as reliable as it has been, but I'm really into hands on performance mods.
I was thinking of starting with an exhaust, diablo tune, and CIA... Is it still worth installing a catch can?
Anything would help! Thanks so much!

Yes it's still worth it.. you can always remove the Throttle body and with some shop rages get most of the oil in there. and then clean the throttle body as well. As for CAI's Lmi or afe are two of the best, and you will wan't to get a t-100 or a intune or preditor for your tunning needs( should be the first mod anyway). And Welcome from Deadwood SD.

Welcome from a small town in Ohio!

Your already on the right track! Get those mods done, you will see a big difference and then come back for more!

Welcome and those are the right things to do. You may want to clean the throttle body and run some SeaFoam into the engine to clean the top end but it's still good to do all those mods, even now.

Thanks! Ran SeaFoam the other day, replaced all the plugs with NGK Iridium's due to a misfire in cylinder 5.. Proceeded to look up plugs and found that that may not have been a good choice?? In the processes of doing all the fluids, as I did not receive any receipts. Also, is it worth it to get a throttle body spacer? I honestly have no idea. Thanks again!

Hi and and welcome!
Throttle body spacers are a waste of dough. Go with the CAI, one of the 3 diablosport tuners available (predator is superseded by the intune i-1000, the trinity has more features) as said above. I'd also say get a catch can too - that garbage you clean off the throttle body and just sea foamed out will be back in no time other wise. I installed mine in, like October I think, and I have a half pint of slop that would have other wise been tossed right back in to the intake.

Not sure on the iridium plugs on the 6.1L but I know stock is NGK PLZTR5A-13, double platinum.

edit* remembered, get a 180* thermostat too (out standing on my list of things to do )

You may or may not get a misfire code with those plugs. I'd measure the dimension, tip to tip, and compare it with the stock plugs. Most misfire issues that arise from a plug change are due to plugs being too short, preventing the electrode from firing in the right position in the combustion chamber.

TB spacers seem to work on SB GM cars (probably due to the intake runner size and configuration) but I've seen dyno tests with the same HEMI on the same dyno on the same day with and without a spacer. The tests showed no improvement.

The benefit of a CAI, however, is measurable (LMI AirHammer or LMI Frankentake or other LMI variations) and you definitely will experience an improvement in throttle response.

So save your money, don't buy a TB spacer, and get a good intake.

Where can I get an airhammer? Is that somthing sold through the forum? I haven't been able to locate one, but I was considering the AFE Stage2 as the alternative. With money not being an option, what are the performance gains between the AFE Stage2 and the Airhammer?
Thanks for all the info!

Those packages are ridiculous! Thank you! Darn, now Im tempted to buy everything at once.. You all are very much taking care of all my questions! My next question though; Exhaust. I read that the majority go with Corsa, but Im not into the sound. Initially I really wanted Borla, then Magnaflow, now Im looking at the Zoomers. Thoughts? Are the X-pipes worth the extra $$? Whats the point of getting that?

Corsa is pricey, I like the sound. Many many guys go with Magnaflow. I also like Borla. Only one guy I know with the zoomers. I am sure he will chime in. SODAK.

Its all personal preference to what you want though.

The x pipe is worth it. Your stock exhaust already has a "Faux" X pipe in it. I have read that it does help when its replaced. The scavenging of the exhaust works better, and some say they have felt an improvement. Either way IDK

Hahaha.. Zoomers like corsa are not cheap and they sound fantastic from idel to full roar.the differance between the zoomer and corsa is corsa is almost stock sounding at idol and the zoomers are not, but there are both worth there money.

Well I definately want a sound worthy of what this car packs. Thanks a lot! Also, I read that 99% of people on the forum install the 180 thermostat. But I've been told that if the car dosent reach it's factory operating temperatures, that it will fail to burn off excess gasses and fumes that eventually lead to build up and deposits?

Whoever told you that was thinking about a 1985 Chevy Caprice...

Actually our cars develop dangerous KR at temps over 195... the knock sensors detect it and pull timing to try and keep it smooth, the cleanest burn in our platform is below the 190 threshold... our cars run better and happier at 185 than they ever do at 205... 82k on mine... 60 of it with 180 and 170 stats... just had my motor in bits for my blower install and she is clean clean clean and no deposits anywhere... ;-)
