All this talk about modding with SC's, headers, etc. I hear people talking about getting extremely good gains on their Hemi. I am thinking about adding mods on my C but one thing concerns me.

Previous posts on this forum talk about the srt8 having the same 5 speed trans as the C and that the 6.1 was detuned from the factory to prevent exceeding the Transmissions power rating (430 HP if I remember properly).

Is anyone worried about grenading their trans or am I the only one?

Sayhmi,

There are quite a few posts on the strength/weakness of the trans.
There are only 2 sides:
Those who think it won't handle additional power....
And those who do.

The MB designed tranny sold me on this car, I bet a buck I would not have purchased this car if the trans were Chrysler designed.

All we have currently are opinions and no proof for either. I personally think it will handle some hp, but time will tell! Until then - bring on the power adders and let the games begin!

The people who have done intakes and headers have put their torque numbers at the same if not just a tad higher than the SRT-8.. Only way to know is to have people put some miles on them.. My guess is, if they're going to go, we should see it in the first 10k or 20k of driving with the mods... That won't take too long with the way some of the members here drive their cars, and I'm included in the list of people looking for an excuse to drive the car. ;)

This has been debated and debated.

Keep in mind this is also the same transmission in the E55 AMG:

469HP and 516lb of torque.
