I have a question for anyone how has bought the factory Service Manual
on CD.

I bought mine, and its great, but I can't seem to get it to print any of the
pages I want.

If I go to the print icon, and try to print any of the pages I want, I keep
getting prints that are almost all black, with just a hint of the page
on the top and bottom of each sheet of paper.

Is there some way to print from the CD? Or, because its copywritted, you
can't make any?

This is just weird...

My general print settings seem to be fine. I can print from other files, but for some
reason, these prints keep coming out all black.

Is there any other print settings within the cd that need to be turned on? If there
is, I can't find them.

Yes, I did that. But, is there any settings that maybe I missed in the set-up that
should be turned on? I am not the best at these things, and its highly likely that
I have something turned off that should be on.

If anyone has any clues for me to look for under the page set-up, I am all ears!!

No particular answers but...printing is a very complex task.

You need to have a bunch on fonts on the pc.
What version of Acrobat do you have...try an update.
It is NOT the cd.
Can you print other pdfs ok?
Can you print any part of any page ok?
The higher the print resolution the more chance of NOT being able to see print...black may appear gray.
Set print resolution to a lower, ie, 300 x300 setting...
(this is because you are using less dots to make a character, so it appears washed out.)..
Do you have another prg that you can load a pdf in?
Humm...

The disk actually came with an updated version of Adobe Acrobate to load, I think it
was version 5 of the reader, so I am pretty sure I have the latest version.

I can print out other pdf, txt and other types of files o.k. Its just the pages that
I try to print off the disk that come out as solid black, with just about an inch of
the page you can read at the top, and an inch at the bottom. The funny thing is,
the blacked out part of the page is not straight across at the top and bottom of
the page. The blacked out part starts in the upper and lower corners of each
printed page, and it curves twards the middle of the page about an inch down from
the top, and an inch up from the bottom. The black pattern resembles an open book
kind of, and it blocks off the entire center section of each page.

I am going to bring the disk to work, and see if it prints off of my computer there. If
it does, then it has to be something I have set-up wrong at home. If it still blacks out
the pages, then its got to be the disk not letting me print. Does that sound like a
logical answer?

Go to adobe.com. I spent just enough time there to confirm you can navigate to a support page where you can use a search function. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I will try load up the newest version 6 and see if that is the
problem.

It is weird though. The disk says to use version 5 or higher, and it gives you version
5 to load.

Once I try it tomorrow at work, I will let everyone know what happens.

At first I was thinking that the disk would not let me print any pages because of
the copyright it has on it. But you guys/gals obviously can print from your disks, so
its got to be something on my end.

Ahh, now this is my area of expertise... I work with printing problems every day..... Anyways....

Acrobat Reader 7 is the lastest version out there and what printer are you using to print these documents out on? I would suspect the print driver first of all and try uninstalling the printer from your printers folder.... Do a reboot, go back to the printers folder and click File -> Server Properties, then choose the drivers tab, remove the drivers for your printer and reboot once more.

Then reinstall all the needed drivers for your printer again. Try it then and see if anything changes, if it doesn't, you need to look at the settings of the printer and see if anything could make a difference.. Also as a last ditch effort you could use a TIFF creator and print the PDF to TIFF and then print out that image from a TIFF viewer (Such as the one built into windows)

What is the model of printer you are trying to print these on?

I finally got the prints to come out. I loaded a newer version of Adobe Reader from
the Service Manual disk, which is version 6.0 ( I know there is a newer one, thanks
HaTaX), and I was able to see the sheets in the print preview window. It was indeed
because I had an older version of Adobe Reader that I was getting the black pages!

My printer is a HP5510xi All-In-One, and once I loaded up the newer version of
Adobe, and set the properties to the correct settings, I am now able to print all
the sheets I need!!

Anyway, thanks to everyone who gave me the clues to find the problem!!

The reason I needed to print the sheets in the first place, is that a few days ago,
I found a small black connector hanging down near my brake pedal. This connector
was on the end of a small wire bundle, and it went up thru the cut-out in the cover
over the brake pedal.

I had no idea what this connector was for, and it kind of took me off guard to see
a connector just hanging there. My first thought was, what the hell is this, and what
could possibly be disconnected?

Then, I thought it might be the connector for the Adjustable Pedals, which I do not
have, but the wires and connectors are there, just not taped up out of the way.

Anyway, I looked in my Service Manual, and sure enough, the wiring harness for
the adjustable pedals is in that area, the connector is small and black, and it had
the right color wires according to the manual.

So, I printed out the pages showing this connector and wires, brought it out to
the car, and verificed it was indeed the adjustable pedal wires/connector.

If it was not for having the manual, I would have had to bring the car back to the
dealer, and leave it there for them to find out what it was, and I would have wasted
another day there.

Everyone should have one of these Service Manuals just for the piece of mind it
gives you. I have always bought them for all my cars. They are worth their weight
in gold!!

You may want to upgrade to Rev. 7 anyway. I routinely print drawings from pdf files at work. Rev. 6 chopped a couple of inches off of the righr side. Rev. 7 remedied that.
