As a lot of people don't browse outside of the Australian area you may have missed how easy it is to update your maps to a newer version.
If you are sick of your maps being way out of date then read on, (providing you have a 2nd Generation model).

What you will need is :-
  1. USB key (Corsair, Kingston or something of quality)
  2. New maps. (Garmin of course)

The current maps for Australia look something like this
City Navigator Australia & New Zealand NT 2014.40

If you have them zipped you should see something similar to this
CNAUNZ201440NAVTEQ_AllInOne_UL.rar (Unzip it to a temp folder somewhere)
you should see a file in there like CN_AUNZ_NT_2014.4-NAVTEQ.img
rename that file to GMAPPROM.IMG

First thing to so is format the USB key using FAT32.
Now create a folder on the root of the key called Garmin.
In the root of the Garmin folder add these 2 files
GMAPPROM.IMG
GMAP3D.IMG

Now look for a folder called JCV with 1 or more JCV files inside
Now copy this as a subfolder to the Garmin folder

If you see a folder called ASR than copy this as a subfolder to the Garmin folder. These are the files needed to make the VR work with the sat nav however as you are aware it doesn't work over here. But just in case it won't hurt to add them if they are there and who know it just might work for someone.

Adding Voice Files. (With these files some voice commands will now work)
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5z2d04ywzbxc5c6/AACjGguFsSQkmfZjjOFwViW3a

Add these files to the ASR folder.
So you should see 3 files with a .ASR extension and 3 with .SRD extension and 1 with a SRX extension

After you update your maps you the following voice commands will now work.

View Map
Where To
Find Points of Interest
Find Recently Found
Go Home
Find Nearest Bank
Find Nearest airport
Find Nearest hotel
Plus many other find nearest.

This is not adding an address via voice but its more than we had.

Now its time to go to the car and update the maps.
This process can take a while and you need to have the ignition on and you might have to cycle the ignition during the process which normally means you can't have the door open.
TIP. Leave the door open and flick the door catch so the car thinks the door is shut, then you can start the process and do other stuff while it updates.

With the ignition on stick the USB key in and it should start validating the files. (this can take a while.)
After validating, it should pop up saying it has found new maps and ask if you want to update them.
Next you should see the progress bar as it updates your maps.

When its 100% finished it should say that it was unsuccessful.
All Done, take your key out and check you have the new maps.

hey buddy, had no issues with VR on my 2013 SRT8 in Australia, did the downgrade from CTP17, after using dealer menu to backup my user data, flashed the CTP13 5 times because the first flash VR gave an error had to flash user data back then it was all good but the Security Code screen come up which i have misplaced my user book so didn't have the pin but luckily if you let the car sit for 15mins it automatically talks to itself and recognizes the unit as the original and unlocks itself, that map upgrade went smooth i can provide unlocked 2021 maps but i'm in Australia so i don't think it'd be useful for you. the steps are rather simple just need a couple of usbs or your laptop with you in the car to swap files as you go e.g user data backup then taking the files off placing your ctp update downgrade files on doing that then swapping back to user data restoring it then clearing that then putting the correct map files on. the steps to do it all are on the charger forums. link here HOW TO: Map Update on Uconnect CTP13+ (2013 - 2014)
i had my car running for the process as i was worried it would time out but the map update only took like 10 minutes even tho it said on the screen can take 2 hours. also the car is super fussy with what USB sticks work with it. i tried 5 different ones and ended up just buying 2 new ones to get the job done and thankfully they worked.

ah thats good to hear!
i know right haha, its so much better, im happy to help anyone if they need assistance as i had someone help me for free with it all, but i also managed to find a nuvi 2689 in the draw at home so i was able to get the map files needed free anyway as well as fellow SRT owner gave me his files . its all about helping a fellow out regardless if you paid to do it as i noticed someone previously posted about it being an awkward thing to ask cause others have paid.

Here is the real problem not the Nuvi it is the files the files on the Garmin have changed they are not the same. So the real question becomes can you use these new files on your u connect. find the answer to that question before you go any further. At least here in the USA..

Hello, new to this forum. Live in Pakenham, Victoria, Australia. Have a pre-owned 2014, 300c sedan. Had it 5 years, done 74k, now done 107k, not much in this time. Have three issues; love some assistance.
GPS Out of date. Ucconnect 8.4/8.4N. Garmin.
Rear camera has flipped, right to left or left to right. Anyway things are reversed for right hand drive.
Rear sun blind, goes half way, very noise just grinds away.
Email: bruce.tangey1@bigpond.
Thanks.
Bruce.
