Im looking to buy some performance mods for my brothers 300c for christmas. i want to keep it reletivly cheap, and im looking for it to be cost effective.
i looked through some ebay intakes. the hennesey style ram-air intake that goes into the bumper looks nice, but i feel hes going to be sucking up water. i know the performance increase would be minimal, but im sure it will give a nice deep growl when he juices it.
i read 180* t-stats give the c a bit more hp increase. how much do those cost and are they easy to install?
i also took a quick look under my brothers c, and it appears like they come with true dual exhaust, but i could be wrong. i also saw that each side has two resonators/mufflers. has anyone just taken out one of the two resonaters per side. i know he wouldnt want his car to be loud, but i dont think he would mind a deep low rumble to turn some heads.

thanks

The Hennessey intake is the only ram-air one, which is a benefit, and he talked about the water issue in one of the threads here...i.e. he said why it's not an issue. Also, you might want to ask Hennessey about the plastic unit he's thinking about making. Should be a good bit cheaper, and it will retain less heat too.

Derek. There is a reason. Those so-called similar setups are totally different. You get what you pay for. Those cheap ebay setups will do nothing but draw in hot air and actually decrease power. There's more to getting more air in that putting in a low restriction filter, and you have to think about how much R&D can some guy do as opposed to another.

ive seen many ebay intakes that sit right near the motor, but their is one that has the same idea of the hennessey intake and put the intake filter into the bumper.
i figured any bent metal pipe is the same as the other bent metal pipe, the only difference between intakes is the filter and location.

I'm with you Derek. Don't get hung up on where it comes from if you know it works the same.

Never assume you know. If you can, verify your result! (Psssst - Dyno!). Those without dyno access can always measure out a distance and make some averaged runs against a stopwatch. We used to estimate raw crank HP with a very simple formula and it was quite accurate! It's just very difficult to get consistent duplicable results. Now add to that the normal production variations in HP and you see how one person may have a SRT8 with a whole lot more power than another before mods started.

JMO I'm not a believer in names alone or apparent design alone. I want to know exactly what were the gains and where in the power band. Not Cynical just skeptical.

James has some nice interior and under the hood mods for looks and show appearance. Maybe you want to go that route. Performance mods are more of a personal thing that your brother may want ot research himself

JMO./ The stainless steel accents for the enigne shroud (top, strips and HEMI lettering- see below) would be an example.
