Well guys, I just got back from a spin in a Jeep SRT8. A friend of mine was on the engine development team for the SRT8. In fact he was one of the lead engineers. Well, this weekend he had the Jeep home for some T&T. We tried about 15 launches in this thing from snow to wet to dry pavement. This thing gets out of the hole!! I can believe the 4.1 to 4.5 seconds that I have been hearing from the test engineers. This thing is going to put a hurtin on a lot of street cars!! But on a roll I think the Magnum would put the smack down on it! At a base price of $49,900 (CAD) this thing is a steal, it is actually cheaper base than a Limited. We put down 10-15 feet of rubber with all four tires while it kept us pinned to our seats in first and second gears. 3.73 gears and AWD with this motor just rocks. I wish the Magnum had the same drivetrain. The brakes are the same Brembos as on my car and do a great job hauling it down from speed. You guys have to get a ride in one when they are out on the street. Later, Tomi

Next year I am going to replace my 1993 Isuzu Rodeo, well not replace but I want a new SUV. I was seriously considering a lease on the S/C Range Rover, but just like that DCX comes out with a Jeep Cherokee SRT-8 that absolutely changed my mind about the Range Rover and maybe about a lease. I think a black SRT-8 Jeep Grand Cherokee will be a perfect addition to the stable. I almost traded my C for a CSRT but they dont have one in Lava Red so I declined, but now I can get into the SRT game and upgrade my SUV at the same time, makes sense to me.

I'm hearing high 13's in the 1/4, while great times for such a heavy jeep, in a real race it will have a tough time with many cars.
Well you can read these reviews...Faster to 60 than a 911...yep, that sounds like a tough time to beat...if you're in the 911.

"At the track the Grand Cherokee SRT8, which rides on massive 255/45ZR20 front and 285/40ZR20 rear Goodyear Eagle RS-A run-flats, laid down some serious numbers: 5.2 seconds to 60 mph, 13.5 seconds in the quarter-mile. That makes this a 4,800-pound SUV that easily smokes a new Mustang GT, Pontiac GTO and, its most direct competitor, the Chevy TrailBlazer SS. And, you may want to sit down for this if you're a Porschephile, it's even quicker than the $90,000 Porsche Cayenne Turbo (0-60 in 5.9, quarter in 14.3)."

"Power is pegged at 420 hp at 6200 rpm and torque is an equally impressive 425 lb-ft at 4800 rpm, though you don't need much more than tickover in any gear to turn the approaching horizon into a streaky blur. Behold the 0-60 mph time of less than five seconds, the 0-100-0 time of less that 19 seconds, and a top speed around 155 mph. The Grand Cherokee SRT8 is fast, people; faster than the Cayenne Turbo and X5 4.0iS that used to look down their premium noses at the Jeep. In fact, it's almost as quick to 60 mph as a Porsche 911. You may gasp when ready."

This one was a test mule that we took for a boot with one of the SRT engineers who developed the new 6.1litre motor. It already had 13000 miles on it. If you guys think that manually shifting a 300, charger or magnum SRT8 is difficult without hitting fuel cut, wait til you try this thing. First is over in less than two seconds! It is pretty nice when you leave four black streaks on the pavement.

One thing noticeably different is the induction and exhaust noises are much quieter, almost too muted for my liking, but they are catering to a different crowd with this one. It is almost as if you have a pillow tied around your ears while driving an lx SRT8. One of my good friends is supposed to be getting his in a couple weeks. When he does, I will post a family shot with my Magnum and a 300 that is also on the board. Happy New Year to all, Tomi

I contacted my local dealer today in Abbotsford, B.C., Canada and he contacted Chrysler about the Jeep SRT8.
He told me that Chrysler Canada have not finalized ditribution details for SRT8 yet in Canada and that I should get back to him in 3 or 4 months.

This sound's kind of strange to me since many Canadian Automotive web sites have been quoting the Canadian MSRP.

Anybody know anything more about this?

So it's much heavier than my 300C SRT-8 (which is about 4100 pounds), and it's got about the same power and torque assuming those are flywheel numbers. It's got plenty of wind resistance. Why is it faster than the 300C SRT-8?

it's not faster, except for 0-60mph. wheelspin costs time...AWD vehicles just LAUNCH.

I should have details of Canadian distribution in the next day or two. I would expect these will arrive sooner rather than later

OK, thanks.

BTW, this dealer in Abbostsford is one of those that removes the factory MSRP and types up their own sticker with a higher price of course. I questioned them about this when I bought my '97 Grand Cherokee. They denied that this is what they did. They must assume their customer's are stupid. I ended up buying my Jeep in another town.
Look's like that may happen again with the SRT8.

actually its not faster than a 2005 GTO (which can get into the high 12's with the right drivers stock), in fact i'm pretty sure the SRT-8 300C are neck
and neck with the 05 GTO all the way up to top speeds from our little race in Schaumburg
IL. Not sure about the Charger SRT-8 but the 300C could not pull nor could the 05 GTO pull up to ~130mph.

The 04 GTO may be a different story with the old LS1 w/ 350hp.
