Jeep SRT8 test drive

Well guys, I just got back from a spin in a Jeep SRT8. A friend of mine was on the engine development team for the SRT8. In fact he was one of the lead engineers. Well, this weekend he had the Jeep home for some T&T. We tried about 15 launches in this thing from snow to wet to dry pavement. This thing gets out of the hole!! I can believe the 4.1 to 4.5 seconds that I have been hearing from the test engineers. This thing is going to put a hurtin on a lot of street cars!! But on a roll I think the Magnum would put the smack down on it! At a base price of $49,900 (CAD) this thing is a steal, it is actually cheaper base than a Limited. We put down 10-15 feet of rubber with all four tires while it kept us pinned to our seats in first and second gears. 3.73 gears and AWD with this motor just rocks. I wish the Magnum had the same drivetrain. The brakes are the same Brembos as on my car and do a great job hauling it down from speed. You guys have to get a ride in one when they are out on the street. Later, Tomi

actually its not faster than a 2005 GTO (which can get into the high 12's with the right drivers stock), in fact i'm pretty sure the SRT-8 300C are neck
and neck with the 05 GTO all the way up to top speeds from our little race in Schaumburg
IL. Not sure about the Charger SRT-8 but the 300C could not pull nor could the 05 GTO pull up to ~130mph.

The 04 GTO may be a different story with the old LS1 w/ 350hp.
"At the track the Grand Cherokee SRT8, which rides on massive 255/45ZR20 front and 285/40ZR20 rear Goodyear Eagle RS-A run-flats, laid down some serious numbers: 5.2 seconds to 60 mph, 13.5 seconds in the quarter-mile. That makes this a 4,800-pound SUV that easily smokes a new Mustang GT, Pontiac GTO and, its most direct competitor, the Chevy TrailBlazer SS. And, you may want to sit down for this if you're a Porschephile, it's even quicker than the $90,000 Porsche Cayenne Turbo (0-60 in 5.9, quarter in 14.3)."
I want one REALLY bad, thinking of trading my GTO in on one. I've wanted an SUV for a long time, only thing holding me back is gas mileage on the GTO is really good considering (like 27mpg on the highway), and the Jeep is aweful. And how heavy it is. I went to go test drive the one a local dealership had in stock but they sold it :( THey have 2 more coming in. They said they sold the other one for $47,000 loaded. Not sure if this was out the door or what.
