The W7 is what most people would refer to as a SQL subwoofer. Its a very musical sub with great SQ (sound quality) and also great SPL (sound pressure level aka in your face screaming bass). The L7 in most installations is generally an SPL subwoofer that lacks in SQ.

They are totally different classes of subwoofer. It all depends if you are interested in Accurate musical reproduction or raw bass. The subwoofer I am running is very comparable to the W7 in performance, and capable of outperforming it depending on installation. I run an Adire Brahma 15" and have compared it with a JL audio prefab box 13w7 in my 300c on the same amp (1000 watts). I was more impressed by the Brahma due to its cost and it was a bit louder due to the larger cone area. Call me biased, but I simply refuse to spend $700 on one speaker.

Other quality competitors to the W7 would be Image Dynamics IDMAX, Resonant Engineering XXX, Adire Brahma or Tumult, and Magnum D2. All are viable competitors and are capable of outclassing the JL w7.

In my opinion the Kicker L7 belongs in a different class. I have yet to hear an install that I liked. If you are interested in your entire neighborhood hearing you 3 miles away perhaps the L7 is the choice for you. It's SQ isn't up to par with the subs I listed above. They can get loud, but to me they sound like fart cannons. :D

If cost is no issue, stick with JL. But I'm not so much of a fan. They make great equipment but I find it is overpriced in comparison to the smaller outfits out there making competing products.

Support the little guy!

Which sub do you guys think hits harder?

JL Audio W7

or

Kicker Solo Baric L7

Ktan23, I have one 12"w7 and before that I had 3-12"w6's and my one W7 hit's harder than all three. I can't stress enough go with the W7. In a Sound Off in Chicago a couple months ago I tied a Astro van with 6-15's, the next heat he beat me by 2 points. What I'm trying to say is that one W7 with a perfect sealed enclosure and the right amp and enough power to run the amp to run to the fullest, you can make people sick in the backseat. Sound comes perfect from a circle not a square.

First of all, no one has made this comparison, why are you comparing Apples to Oranges? why is everyone that is biased for the JL missing the bigger picture??? Come on... I paid $500 for both my L7 12" that is the price for one JL on ebay... so lets be realistic, its like comparing the 300 base to the 300c...

you should really be comparing the JL to the Solo X 12" they are within the same price range yet the Solo X being in a higher power category...

Either way I still vote for the L7... I went from 3 Fosgates DVC with a Punch 800 amp to two L7s with a Kicker SX50 and I thump a lot louder and I don't overheat like i did with the punch...

Like I said, you are not making a fair comparison... if you have the money for the JL, go with it... It might sound nicer but it doesnt justify paying double for it... afterall, its bass, it will rattle your trunk like there is no tomorrow :) thats just my opinion...

~~~~
Edited... I just noticed Rogue did mention the price, though not exactly my comparison, but he did... so if price is not an issue go with the JL.... I can not say what my system sounds like from far since no one wants to drive it around the block for me blasting it :)
I feel like either of the speakers are too much for the 300. Those speakers are more for sound competitions and not a luxury type car. I put systems in all my cars but my 300 I will never dare to put more than 300 watts rms inn it if I do dare to do so. All sound systems do is loosen bolts and cause other problems in cars. I'm a 19 yr old male, the age thats known for putting systems into cars, but I even know better than that.
Apparently $36,000 cars are becoming more common for highschool kids these days. I was fortunate enough to attended some of the more expensive private schools in Southern California and I saw my share of lucky kids, but you guys take the cake. A rare used M3 was a hot commodity and the crem de la crem.
$36k car, $2000 in audio equipment?
Appreciate what ya got and you'll be golden...
Oh how I wish I could do it all over again knowing what I know now. -Turned 26 yesterday
Yung try not to teach your elders about wattage. There is plenty to learn and absorb in the car audio hobby before you go around telling others how to build their system. ;)
My car is on Car Domain too. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/645278
When I first got my car last May I put the sounds and the rims on the same week. I guess I can't enjoy something until it's all put together. to see more pictures of it click here...http://www.300cforums.com/showthread.php?t=509
As far as the box goes, a friend of mine works out of his garage and does some real good work. It's pretty small, it's only 1.75 cu. ft. (sealed) That's why I love JL. Everyone has their own opinion, I've always had JL Audio subs since I started driving, who knows maybe I'd like Kicker Solo's better but I dought it.
I have one JL Audio 1000/1 for the 12W7 and one 300/4 for the MB Quart components. In the pictures I first had an Alpine MRV 1507 and a 404 but I haven't taken any new pictures of the JL amps yet. My guy did everything for one price, I don't know how much the box was. Call a local sound shop by you. If I were you I'd call an ABT or Tweeter if you have those stores by your house. By the way, I think it's GREAT that you got a 300C being 16 years old, keep hustlin' ;)
Whats the point in being loud to others? People like you give car audio a bad name. Your age might have something to do with it. Car audio is for the people inside the vehicle to enjoy, not the old lady sitting next to you minding her own business forced to listen to Little John. A few sound violation tickets may teach you a proper lesson. :mad:
I'm starting to sound like an old man, or this forum is being flooded with 300c owners in highschool. :rolleyes:
To keep this post constructive Audiobahn makes and sells misleading products. Their amps and subs over rated in wattage, covered in way too much chrome to attract the "Bling fanatics" and everything they make generally fails within a years time. Talk to any reputable audio shop and you will have a hard time finding a shop that sells audiobahn. Only the shady ones or the major stores like Circuit City or Best buy.
Avoid Sony Xplod and Audiobahn if you can afford better.
300C ON 22's, can you get a good price one a 12w7? or can anyone get one for a good price? is it worth it to go with the 13.5''?
I can get JL Audio from my distributor, no problem. I was gonna go with the 13" but that required a bigger box and I knew the 12" would of been more than enough power. Let me know...
I'll give them a call on Monday and find out. As for amps, I would definitly do a JL Audio 1000/1, that's what JL requires to run a 12W7. It doesn't end there, if your running a 1000/1 you'll also need an extra battery (Optima yellow top) and a 15 farad cap (Alumapro) if you want to do it right. I started off with a 5 farad Alumapro cap, and my light's were still diming but there's also 4 TV's that need power. So if your not running anything else start off with a 5 farad cap.
