Has anyone out there had a problem with their Kicker Audio system Failing?
Last night I was cruising along listening to the radio tunes and I started hearing static like the tuner was off then it was all static which turned into a non stop thumping through the Speakers. First I turned off the radio, It still continued then I pulled off the road and turned the car off It would still not stop. I headed for home as the cabin filled with the smell of molten electronics, the thumping continued. Once at home I pulled the radio fuse it still continued. I finally got it to stop by disconnecting the battery. I will have to take it into the dealer. If anyone has had this problem with a Kicker Audio sytem failure please post a thread and let me know what the cure was.
I need to relay anything I can to the dealer to cut down on the "in the shop time". I only hope it did not do permanent damage to the cars wiring system.

He has the kicker audio upgrade to the SRT-8... It is a factory installed system (as an option).

That's no good to hear, but it sounds as if the amp had a quick end to it's life... Hopefully it will have stopped the thumping so you can drive it to the dealer in peace.

The issue you have sounds like a problem with your Radio Head unit. Remember, Kicker is only the amp and the speakers&sub. The thumping you speak about, is it coming from the sub? Not sure how many fuses there are for the radio/amp, but if the sound is coming from the sub, dsconnect the harness in the trunk on the top of the sub. Once again, it might just be the head unit. I guess we all need to know more about the sound you are hearing as well as know where it is coming from.

THe constant thumping makes me think head unit. But if there was a strong molten electronic smell in your cabin, then that would lead me to believe the amp burned up. If the thumping was coming from your sub though, the amp is probably fine, since the radio doesn't put out enough power to make the sub bump. I've burned quite a few amps, usually the subs just cut out, and you smell it.

Hi all and thanks for the feedback. To answer some questions the thumping was coming from the center dash speaker and the sub in the trunk. After I reconnected the battery The thumping did not resume but, I have no radio or cd at all. Maybe it was an amp or the head unit. I do not know if these are different with the Kicker system than with the other radio systems. I am taking it into the dealer for diagnosis tommorrow morning. I willl post what ever happens with the repair.

SRT8 & KICKER BACK ON THE ROAD

I got my car back on Tuesday 9-6-05. The problem with the Kicker sound system was that it Burned up an amp. The Kicker comes with an 8 channel amp. The part was out of town so combined with a three day weekend The car was unfortunately down 9 days. I hope that the problem is fixed for good. The only issue now is that Gasoline went up about .85 cents a gallon while It was in the shop. Thanks to all that had helpfull comments.

Glad it all worked out! Look at it this way, the fuel in your tank turned out to be a great investment!
