LED Taillight Wiring Issue. Anyone else had?

Got my LED Taillights off of EBay through X3Racing.com. Installed them on Monday morning. Turned on the parking lights... look good. Turned on the blinkers... look good. Brake lights must look equally good.... Can't step on the brake and walk around the back of the car at the same time. On Wednesday I happen to back up to a store where the windows went all theh way to the ground.... Great opportunity to check out those brake lights.... NOTHING. Well maybe it's the angle I'm looking at them? Went to a friends house and said, Hey step on those brakes for me so I can check out how these things look.... Third brake light only!
Got my test light out and found that the plug off the car and the plug for the new taillight have the brake light terminal in different spots. So the parking and turn signal work fine but no brake lights. Ive heard that the V6's have different wiring so these must be wired for a V6.
I've called x3Racing.com and they have said I need to take a picture so they can see what I'm talking about. I'll probably have those to post tomorrow.
So... All you with LEDs, make sure you have Brake Lights. Luckily I found this out and not "Johnny Law".
I could easily do some cutting and splicing. but why. These should fit my car and I don't want to cut up the tail light harness on my 40K car.

Sorry to hear about your problem BradC. I can't recall off the top of my head what the load equalizer was needed for - but I know some models required it or not. I wanna say it was only needed for the V6s to use LED taillights, but I could be wrong. I don't think SRTs needed anything - the LED taillights should be plug&play.

On V6's the turn signals and brake lights are combined. The fix is posted by me in the How To section....

Yeah... Thats what you'd think, however the plug on these particular lights is filled and bonded with epoxy. So there is no un plugging and re plugging. The vendor already took them back and said he'd send a new set next week. I told him to make sure the lower row on the plug has two terminals.

I can feel your frustration, excited with the new mod and then to find out it isn't working even though it is brand new! I just did my LEDs last week and had to trouble shoot a little bit before I got it all going... I needed the aluminum foil trick to make the bottom running lights work, and had to switch around the bulbs for both reverse lights and one turn signal... but it was all working in short order. What manufacturer are you using? Sonars? By way of checking the brake lights I used my jump box (jump start a car without another car) since it is heavy and I could jam it against the pedal. Maybe you can use a tool box or something for the same effect when it comes time to re-install. Good luck, post pics when you get em in!

Frankio-- you need to read this thread! Rewiring the light fixture is not the fix... can't be done. This can't be overcome at the back of the car. The lights are not the issue... it is how the FCM (Forward Control Module) sends the signals to the light.

http://www.300cforums.com/forums/te...s/tech-tips-diy-how/34591-how-c-tail-lights-base-touring-limited-incl-leds.html

If you don't want to do this mod-- the other option you have is to cut the wiring free for the turn signal lamp and attach it to the backup light socket. This will give you 2 back up lights per side. The top portion (LEDs) will function as the brake lights AND turn signals.

Hi!
I read Italianguy's article on rewiring the tail lamps... I have to admit that I was lost at sentence three or so!

Do you think that the dealer can reprogram this FCM thing?

Since I have no expertise in this area, allow me to amuse you with my idea.

Say you find this FCM from a wrecked 300C, take it out (can I do that?) and put it in my Touring model. Then splice the tail lamp connector from a 300C to my Tourning.

Would that work?

Thanks!

the FCM mod took me all but 5 or 10 minutes, don't let it intimidate you. I highly doubt any dealership would be willing to do this for you, as I imagine they'd claim your warantee is voided when you start cutting wires. I suggest disconnecting the battery and unplugging the plugs on the FCM and seeing how easy this is going to be. You cut two wires, and splice onto another two. Mod complete. If the fast blinker bothers you, he's got a fix for that on the FAQ thats 2 wires and a ground as well.
