well, after three attempts and over twenty days out of service, i retained an attorney and started the lemon law process.
i purchased my magnum srt-8 on august 19, 2005 and i have had problems since day one.
some of them include:

1) the car will not start periodically . turn the key...nothing.
2) the car has stalled 6 times in one month of ownership. 4 of these times i was driving in excess of 50 mph and it shut down completely.
3) the radio and headlights turn on and off by themselves hundreds of times while driving. the radio will even go to the highest volume setting by itself.
4) the check engine light and all other system warning lights will illuminate periodically.
5) the tach and the speedo will not work periodically.

the dealer pulled codes with the starscan and found over 15 different codes.
they have received no help from daimler/chrysler. they initially thought it was the the satellite module but the problem re-occurred.

daimler/chrysler has done nothing to help me and i have been pleasant with them each and every time. they finally just decided to give a rental car for five days  wow. great. :fing26:

i dont even want a refund, i just want a new car. very frusterating and hard to stay calm at times.

i really hope this process doesnt take a year. im hoping d/c makes me some kind of offer for a new car or something. i bought the car outright so its killing me even more cause i own every dysfunctional nut and bolt.

any feedback is appreciated.

86 - Sorry to hear about the platoon of gremlins infesting your Magnum SRT. I don't know if it could cause all of those problems, but I have heard of faulty ignition switches causing a great deal of electronic mayhem. The greatest approach in a lemon law claim, besides strong documentation, is to keep repeating your interest in a new vehicle over a simple refund. It shows your not trying to scam anybody -you're just looking for a safe reliable car.

Good luck.

Hope I can help.
Went through the lemon law process recently myself. I bought my son a Chevy Avalanche that had a water leak from day 1. The damned truck was back at the dealer about ten times. Did some research and contacted the Better Business Bureau's "Auto Line". They handled the whole matter and contacted G.M. Next thing I knew G.M. calls and offers to settle with me if I call off the BBB suit. They agreed to replace the vehicle or repurchase it. The auto manufacturers hate to be involved in a BBB suit. I took the money and bought the kid a GTO. Give them a try. Here's their website. Good Luck

P.S. I forgot to mention you don't need an attorney to do this. The BBB was very informative and helpful. They did everything for me.

Good luck with the Lemon Law process. You are going to need it.

I started the process in December 2004 on an American Ironhorse custom chopper. To date, I have not received any sort of satisfaction from the manufacturer. My attorney sent them a letter and they simply ignored it. Now my attorney indicates that our next option is to sue them, which he estimates will cost about $20,000. He declined to take the case on contingency, so my faith in him and the entire case is slim. If he doesn't believe in the case, then why should I?

My case is extremely black and white too. Here are the facts:

-- Bike was out of service for warranty repairs for 60+ days during first year.
-- Bike was out of service for warranty repairs for 120+ days during second year.
-- Bike has been in the shop for warranty repairs since December 2004. Yes, I have not seen the bike since December 2004, almost 10 months!

As of right now, my attorney has $2,000 of my money and wants another $20K to go to trial. So far, he has done nothing but write 2 letters to the manufacturer. American Ironhorse is simply ignoring my complaint and refuses to respond to our letters.

It took me 4 months to complete a lemon law suit against GM in 1994. I worked through the lemon law arbitration to get it fixed, but they keep only going 50% on the fixes. Finally, I got an attorney involved and filed suit. GM caved on the first phone call(had 5 attempts to fix with no documented cure), but it took them another 2 months to come to the table with my check. So, total time was 6 months, but I got everything back, including window tint costs.

You need to escalate to a regional Chrysler manager, a VP level guy. A friend of mine does that for Volvo. He makes the customer happy no matter what it takes, including replacing the car. These are corporate guys, outside of the dealership. See if you can get a name for one of these managers. Good luck, I feel for you.

I had a Chry T&C Limmited Mini Van. The primer start showing through the white paint after a few months of ownership. I talked to the dealer service director told him I wanted a new van. He called Chry. They looked at it and measured the paint...agreed it was out of spec and told me they would give me any vehicle i wanted that chrysler made. so i picked out my C and MSRP was less than the van so they gave me a check too:) The chrysler district manager made the call and did not give me any grief. The dealer was on my side the whole time. the key is to get the dealer service director on your side and have him convince the district manager to offer you a new vehicle. Whole process took 4 months and 15,000 free miles on the van.

FYI -- the above member uses the word "suit" improperly. The BBB will not file suit on your behalf. Actually, the BBB will not file suit at all. The BBB will assist you with a complaint; however, the auto manufacturer has to be willing to play ball. If they aren't, you are still going to have to hire an attorney and spend big bucks to get any satisfaction.

The BBB can only assist you with vehicles that are manufactured by companies who cooperate with the BBB. Not all of them do. If the vehicle manufacturer does not participate in the BBB program then they are of no help at all.

If you are lucky enough to own a lemon that is manufactured by a company who participates in the BBB program, then they can usually be of great help to you if your auto is truly a lemon.

All symptoms seem related to FCM function, which acts as the central gateway for all other modules on the CAN network.

W/out the DTCs in front of me, I like a faulty or an improperly grounded FCM as the culprit (1) FCMs are not DCX's strongsuit (general FCMCGW failure is not uncommon)...(2) All of these symptoms could be explained by FCM dropout.

When/if the FCM loses power or is improperly grounded, intermittent-temporary issues like this arise frequently. Sometimes there are # of symptoms that occur randomly, other times there is a single or a few repeated symptoms.

Another possible cause is PCM reset (well, at least the #4 and #5 issues), although PCM resets just about always result in die-outs only. I'm surprised your dealer hasn't installed a new PCM yet. (although 1,2,3 point to FCM function)

One thing that would help, if possible, please post all DTCs (regardless of state, i.e. pending, stored, etc)

Thanks.

well my car is at the dealer for the 5th time. Since i purchased the car on 08/19/05, the car has been out of service 5 times, totaling 33 days.
They have replaced the satellite control module, front control module and the steering control module. No change.

Chrysler is offering me an exchange for a new mag srt-8 or a vehicle of greater value, provided i pay the difference. dont know what to do. cant really say i want another magnum after all of this. i could stick out the lemon law suit and go for the full refund but it might take a while. :eek:uch: :eek:uch:
