Hey guys, first time posting here I’ve been on here reading frequently since I got my car back in August.
Cut to the point, there seems to be an issue relating to the transmission. I first noticed it when my car stopped being able to coast. I release the gas at speed, and it immediately starts to slow down rather aggressively, as though the engine break is on. I also began to notice a subtle jolt when coming to a stop. It’s like it gains a tiny bit of speed after slowing most of the way down before slowing al the way down, almost like someone hit you from behind. It makes a soft clunk that generally only I can detect as the driver. It also started to feel sluggish, and sometimes the shifts feel late and I can hear the engine moaning. Sometimes I’ll hear a low rumble and I can feel that the car is having trouble finding or staying in the right gear. Sometimes it’ll clunk into a lower gear rather harshly randomly while driving too.
All this leads me to suspect transmission failure but when I did some research on here I saw people talking about checking fluids first and cleaning the throttle body, and also resetting/reprogramming the PCM. The last one seems to be the most likely solution for me. I got the throttle body cleaned and had my mechanic check the transmission fluid and he said it’s full, so I’m guessing it’s the PCM needing a reset or an update.
My questions are
1- If I pull fuze 11 and do a reset myself will that solve my problem or do I need the full software update/reprogramming that the dealership can do? I’m just hesitant to bring it to them for fear of getting fucked over, but if I gotta do it I will. It would be nice to have the car learn my driving patterns from scratch too.
2- has anyone else experienced what I’m describing? I know I read some other posts on here that sounded pretty similar. If so, what did you end up doing to solve it?
3- if you know anything about these cars, does my assessment sound about right? And would you say my order of operations is reasonable? My plan is basically take it to the dealership to get the PCM updated/reprogrammed/reset (which is it lol). If that doesn’t fix it, try a transmission fluid flush maybe? Or check my air filter or spark plugs. If none of those work I guess maybe I’d just have to replace the transmission, but I really don’t wanna do that.
It’s a persistent annoying problem but
ultimately it doesn’t prevent the car from running. My mpg is down and my power seems muted a bit but the ride is still smooth and the shifting issues are almost unnoticeable to an inattentive passenger. It acts like everything is fine, while simultaneously acting like the transmission is about to die, if that makes any sense. I just wanna drive my car and have fun, I’m dreading a super expensive repair but that’s caused me to prolong getting it diagnosed which I know is stupid. Planning on taking it for the PCM reset today or Friday. Fingers crossed that takes care of it
Any insight/experience tips or suggestions much appreciated!
