lurch, light, and stall

2288 Views 11 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  4u2nv
Last week I was driving around and I got to a light and the C just decided that it would stall out on me. I figured that it was nothing becasue it never happened before that so I let it go. Then the other day I was coming out of a parking lot and I let off the brake and the car lurched forward but it felt like the abs kicked in. No warning lights went on at that point so I figure it couldn't be the ABS. Then last night I'm driving home and the car decides to throw on the "malfunction indicator light". Has any one else had problems light this?

Haven't had the issue. But in a computer-controlled car, a stall like this is ALWAYS indicative of a problem. The computer should be able to compensate for any problem it would encounter under normal circumstances to keep the car running.
have 3500 miles (build date 4/5/04) and no problems like you....yet
My car is the lurch king. Except it does it in the morning when first going in reverse. Sometimes it talkes a sabbatical and doesn't do it for a while. Sometimes it does it mildly and sometimes very strong. Its been back many a time to fix it. All SW related. They have upgraded to the computer to 4.6 months ago and 5.1 like three weeks ago. The problem has not totally gone away. My car is a March 2004 build and I am in a big fight with Chrysler right now. You are the first forward lurcher I have heard of.

After 18000 miles and almost two years, Today I was driving my 05 "C" and this happened: driving about 35 mph and I slightly accelerated and my car unexpectantly hesitated and went into limp mode and at the same time I heard a chime and the "malfunction light" came on. I drove the car home (about 2 miles) and turned the engine off and on to try to clear the light. I also redid the gas cap as the manual stated to do and no avail. This is the first ever problem with the car. Tomorrow the car will go to the dealer. I will post the outcome.

I sure like my dealer. That is one advantage of buying a car from a small town dealer(Tomsic Chrysler of Wahington PA.) They Starscaned the car and found a glitch on the torque management of the transmission. They said there was a TSB on it. He gave me the latest update on it and on the way home I tested the car and couldn't believe what was happening. It is as if he gave me 50 more HP. I stoped my car, undid ESP and floored it. I was laying rubber (2000miles only on the tires) over a hundred feet and had to let up on the gas to stop the tires from spinning. After all, I didn't want to wear out new tires and didn't expect that amount of torgue. The shifts are so much crisper that I am wondering if he gave me the same update as the HE 300's have. With the same tires on the same road I never was able to do what I did today. From day one when I bought the car I was impressed with the power of the 5.7, but this out does the car by an amazing amount. My car is completely stock except for the K&N drop-in filter.

Irwin, can you find out which TST did they perform?

Thanks.

Today. since the dealer is located only about 10 minutes from my house, I drove over there and gave the service manager $30 to buy the shop a couple pizzas. I did that before when they enabled the DRL for me. On the way home I stopped at the same location as yesterday to check out the acceleration with the ESP engaged this time. I had the engine at idle with no foot on the brake and floored it. I still left about 50' of rubber.

After reading your question, I went to my car to look at the EVIC which showed the last software as 3.61 which was downloaded July 05. I am looking at the invoice and it only says reprogram PCM as per TSB. After that is the following: 08194793 15. I do not know if that is relevant. Maybe Resumespeed or some one else will know. I will be going back in a week or so for an oil change and let you know the TSB. Tomsic Chrysler's phone # is: (724) 228-1330 if anyone wants to ask the service manager.
I have ran into this on a few occasions. Usually it would happen when I put the car into reverse. When I go to put it back into drive, it would just stall out. But it would start right back up. But how emberassing is that when you stall out a $47,000 automatic car with people watching you???? :( Yesterday I went into the Wienersnitzel drive thru and I had it in D when it just decided to stall again. That was the first time it stalled with me putting it in reverse.
