[MAXSRT-8]

I've had my 300C SRT-8 for six days now and today I had my chance to see what it does. When I picked up my ride from the dealer I left my digital camera, and today I went back to pick it up. 145 miles round trip. On my way back, I'm crusing along at 59 MPH set with the cruise. This is only because it is a two lane highway for about 25 miles till the Interestate and lots of cops. I notice in the rear view mirror a car getting closer and closer till it finally sooms by on the opposite lane, no cars coming. I noticed it was a Jaguar. At first I thought I'll just let him go. I see him disappear around the corner about half a mile ahead of me. "I don't think so". I said to myself.
I disengage the cruise and press the ESP for the curves ahead of me. I'm doing 85 and I can see him getting closer to me. Another mile and the highway ends and turns into I-30. As we merge to the Interestate I'm about an 1/8 of a mile behind him. He gets stuck behind a truck on the left lane on I-30. I catch up to him but also get stuck behind a truck on the right side. My truck was a bit faster so as I pass him I looked over and he looked along with his buddy who was staring at my wheels. Finally the truck moved enough for me to get ahead of his Jaguar. Prime moment for him to see the SRT-8 emblem. My truck cleared space big enough for me to pass on the left and I can see him following me. We kept weaving in and out of traffic for a while untill the road turns to a three lane highway. We take turns passing each other from different lanes at speeds of 90 MPH. I was a bout to call it quits when I saw my moment. Two trucks in the middle lane. He is on the far left behind a van and I'm on the right behind an old lady and her Taurus. The Lady exits and I'm clear. I move past the the truck in front on the middle lane and he is still stuck behind the van. He finally maneauvers around the van between the trucks and back on the left lane. I'm waiting for him about two car lengths in front of the truck going 67MPH and turn the ESP off. He finally pulls up past the truck. I look ahead and to my luck no other vehicles for at least a mile ahead of us. I look over at him and he looks over at me. He knew what I wanted. He takes off first. I quickly downshift to Fourth and I'm out of there. As I hit Fifth gear I'm already passing him. Slowly he falls behind and the traffic is coming fast. I look at my speedometer and it's reading 147MPH. He is way behind now so I ease off till I get stuck behind traffic again. I move over to the middle lane. As he catches up to me on the left I looked over and he and his buddy look at me. "Go ahead say it". I'm thinking to myself. Untill he finally concedes to giving me the thumbs up.
Yeah baby. I love this car!

O yeah that was a Jaguar XKR
Was he worth it or did I waste my gas?
Was this a kill or just a teaser?
Whatever it was it was one hell of a ride for me.
I'll post pics of my ride later I have to shink them.

Is a Jag worth the gas??

Just to let you know how ill equipped I am to answer this question:

After over 3 months behind the wheel of my 8, I finally got someone interested in taking me on. I pull up to a red light to make a right, and I see this sporty red thing behind me. So, I make the right and give it a healthy dose of gas (just for fun). What's interesting, is that I notice the sporty red thing stays right with me. Hmmm, I'm thinking, he wants to play.

So the next right is onto the highway, and again he follows. All the way around the ramp I'm looking in my rear view mirror trying to figure out what it is I'm playing with: A vette? No, it's not a vette. A viper? No, it's not a viper. A camero? No, it's not a camero. Ok, so I get around the curl of the onramp and check my side view mirror to merge. 3 open lanes. Perfect. I floor it and pull out a lane. I check my mirror, and holy sh*t, my chase buddy has pulled out two lanes. Over to my side mirror. Well, this guy couldn't be any closer than he appeared to be, and about to pass me in a hurry. I only had time to give him a thumbs up as he passed by me, grinning ear to ear.

Oh, a Ferrari. Right.

This guys passes me in a Porsche on PCH this morning. Don't really care. We both end up turning left on Bolsa Chica from Warner. Goes into 3 lanes. I got back in front of him before this light somehow. Two cars in front of me take lanes 1 & 2. I move right over to the outside lane and the Porsche follows right behind me. I have my 18 year old son sitting shotgun. I hurt my right foot on the floor when I see that he's right up on my arse. Then I look in the rear view mirror and I am just flabbergasted to see that this frickin Porsche is still right on my ass.

Had to shut her down for traffic. We weave through traffic a bit and he finally pulls up next to us and gives me and the son the "thumbs up" sign and takes off. I was done and he turned off soon thereafter.

It was just a little frickin' Boxster! Are they all that quick from 15 - 80?

Boxster runs 0-60 in just under 6.0 sec and Boxster S hits it in about 5.0 sec, but i think these #'s are conservative..............little things are very quick

I am not really up on who's the faster/est vehicles out there and I have taken a bunch of flack for some of these "experiences" that I have related on these forums for "picking" on an inferior car. I just run with em' when the opportunity presents itself! I figure if they're up for it. So am I!

This is the second "bullet" I have taken on in the last week. Both short runs and I held my own in both, so I guess that is a good thing!

I feel a lot better about my car's performance now!

The XKR weighs in at a whopping 4000 pounds. It has basically the same Supercharged DOHC V8 the Cobra Mustang has @390HP and 399TQ.

The only problem is he paid way way way more for hardly a back seat.

I know the car is just about as heavy, but I was referring to the difference in power versus money spent. 390hp (supercharged hp none the less ) tells me one thing...........he just ain't packin' enough heat to be messing with the SRT8. Besides, most Jag owners I know ( I repeat-----I KNOW) couldn't tell you what the hell was under the hood...........as long as the little jaguar is ON the hood, they're happy. Go across the Atlantic and that changes considerably.......

You're not kidding....My good friend mentioned to me the other week he's kicking around the idea of buying a used XKR....He says it's his dream car....I said you realize that has the 390HP s/c engine that the Cobras have right?

His anwer:

"whatever, I don't care, I just love Jaguars."

anyone seen the new XK 4.2...............ummmm doesn't it look exactly like an Aston Martin?? much cheaper than an AM though, although ironically both are owned by Ford...........hmmmmm

Thanks vvv90, I did not know what he had under the hood. I knew it had to be good if he wanted to play with the SRT-8. I'm still grinning about it. Wish I had my video camera. Damn! I did have it. Just didn.'t think about it. Can't wait for kill #2.
