My trunk popped open!!!

So im driving today and there was a bump in the road ahead so I slowed down and as i made my way over the bump i hear a "click" sound and then beeping inside the cabin, I look at the display and it was showing that my trunk had opened! I pulled to the side and to my surprise the trunk had actually opened. This was bizarre because I was driving around all day, never opened the trunk and I was driving for atleast 20 mins without stopping when my trunk suddenly opened up. I didn't touch the trunk release nor did I touch the trunk release on the key. I'm still trying to figure out why the trunk just popped open but I will bring it up with my dealer when I do go in for a oil change later this week.

The trunk should NOT be able to be released using the key or the button while the car is in gear. This is potentially a very dangerous situation, please let us know what develops!
Might not have been closed all the way and the bump jarred it open... The buttons on the keys don't even work when they are in the ignition and the trunk release button down on the knee bolster won't even work until the car is in park...

Hopefully it was just not closed 100%

That's as I said, however the problem with the "already open" theory is that the alarm would have sounded at start and the 'trunk open' icon would have appeared on the EVIC, but he had reportedly been driving for 20 mins... he even heard the 'click' when it did open.
I definitely want to know how this could have happened.

Odd, make sure they put in the proper oil. 5w20 or you may hear your MDS click  !
How is the trunk opening a dangerous situation? If you are moving, the air flow will keep it closed, won't it? If you aren't moving, go shut it.

I do see it as a major problem but I can't see the potentially dangerous situation. Maybe I'm just not thinking it through enough.
Had my car checked by the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong but they have put it on the record incase it comes up again. It is dangerous depending on how fast your going and what you have in the trunk. Dangerous or not, the trunk shouldn't open up on it's own.

If you are not moving fast a crosswind could easily lift the trunk, not only completely obstructing your view, but turning loose objects from the trunk into projectiles to those driving behind you.

I live in a very high wind area. My hubby once had his truck tonneau cover raised to retrieve something from the bed and the wind lifted and sailed it over the top of the truck. It landed on the front of the truck and left a large crease across the hood and above the windshield. That cover required 2 of us to remove it but the wind made it look like a feather flying... thank God no one was in it's path!
I would check out the trunk latch by lowering the trunk slowly and seeing how much of a "drop" is needed to make it latch. I really dislike a trunk that drops down so easily, could catch someones curious hands. There's some adjustments for the trunk or maybe the latch needs some grease.
Trunk pops open.

I've had my 300c a little over a year and about once every 2 or 3 months the trunk opens itself while the car is moving. Different speeds, warm or cold, wet or dry, smooth or bumpy, doesn't matter. It's not a huge issue as long as you don't slam on the brakes and break off the hinges, but it's awfully annoying, and an issue that Chyrsler seems clueless about.
My car is a 2012 300C AWD. My trunk has been opening by itself as well! I had it to the dealer about a month ago and they could not find the issue. It has acted up again this week and it is there again. Only 4K on it. I read somewhere it may be a key fob issue but that is pushing it since it has happened over night and in my office driveway while I am in the office. Very odd.
In the 15 months I've had my 2012, mine has popped open once while driving. I have seen a few other reports of it on the 2011/2012 models. I think it's more of a latching issue, not an electronics one.
check to make sure that the release handle inside of the trunk area is not being pulled by the trunk carpet / lining
The dealer had to replace the trunk switch, cleared DTC. The DTC was b259e-01 if that helps anyone.
...and today I awoke with it open-in a bit of rain. Damn it!
I started a thread about this not knowing one is here, but I have 2 12" and recently installed a 4000watt mono block amp and the bass forced my trunk to pop open in the highway. Is there a solution to fix this an keep my booming!

I had the same problem. The black button on my trunk had a short in it. I lowered the covering on the inside of the trunk and unplugged the wire going to it. This solved the problem. Can't use the button anymore but I still can use the key fob or the button inside the car to open the trunk.
There's a known issue with the early Gen 2 trunk buttons and details of the replacement in this thread: http://www.300cforums.com/forums/2n...n/160913-trunk-button-2013-300s-recalled.html
