I'm hoping Naviplus will do the right thing and give me a refund or provide me with a new Nav unit after reading this post and comments left by other members. I don't mean to stir up sh*t for no reason but I have no choice because right now im out $1500 and I need to put this up so Naviplus can do the right thing. Telling me the unit is brand new and sending me a unit which is worst condition then a used unit is unbelievable. And there is a good chance the unit defective just from the condition and I will have it tested once I recieve a response from Naviplus on how they want to handle this.

This whole mess started two weeks ago I was looking for a Nav unit for my 300C so I posted a question concerning Nav units with blue screens (http://www.300cforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5566). Naviplus PM'd me and told me they had a brand new Nav unit with ant, dvd and the naviplus hack for $1500. Here's the PM message I sent Naviplus the same day:

A few days later I paid using Paypal the full $1500 and I purchased a $150 DVD player to bring the total cost to $1650. On Wed the Nav unit arrived via UPS. I opened the box to find the dvd brand new, the ant brand new, the naviplus hack brand new and the dvd player which was also brand new. Now the Nav unit itself was a different story. First, the unit was wrapped very poorly which was odd cause I thought the Nav would have come in a box because it was suppose to be brand new. When I unwrapped it I noticed right way that the top labels where damaged I then noticed the damage on the front cover. I was pissed off because I thought I paid $1500 for a brand new unit. So I e-mailed naviplus and here is what I wrote:

Hey, I got the unit today and i'm a bit disappointed. You told me on 300cforums.com that the nav unit was brand new and today when I went to open the box the unit turned out to be used. On top of all that the unit has some minor damage. I paid $1500 because I thought it was going be a brand new unit like you said and instead I got a used unit. I could have bought the unit used from eBay but I paid you stated the unit was new. I bought the unit in good faith cause you are a sponser on 300cforums but honestly I feel like was taken for. Tell me what you would like to do because this is the last thing I would expect from a forum sponser.

How can you say the unit is brand new?? I'll post pictures up tonight on the 300cforums so you can explain why a brand new unit has damage to it and smells like smoke

I forgot to mention that the unit also smelled like smoke like it was removed from a smokers car. And the second reponse makes me worried that the unit isn't working cause the question I sent and the answer I got are totally different.

Both of the responses pissed me off so I replied telling them that I was going post pictures and post what happean on the 300cforums but with no response. I have been ripped off in the past for close to $5000 and since then i've been very wary of buying stuff online. I trusted Naviplus because they are the forum sponsors and nothing wrong with supporting site sponsors but I can't believe that I actually got ripped off by one. I am stating in this post that I want a refund for the Nav unit because it was stated that the unit was brand new but instead I got a used unit. I paid Naviplus a lot of money in good faith and instead they screwed me. If I knew the unit was going be used i could have got used unit off ebay for $700 and then sent it into naviplus which would have saved me $400. I am giving Naviplus a chance to give me a refund or to send me a brand new unit with the Naviplus hack and they can have this unit returned back to them. I don't want to goto my credit card company and dispute the charges but if I have to then I will. I still can't believe I was ripped off and what really pisses me off is even though naviplus knows that the unit was used they still email me and tell me that its brand new. That f*cking pissed me off and sorry for the langauge but i'm really pissed off about this whole situation. I tried my best to keep it private and see if naviplus would fess up and tell me the unit was used and solve the problem without the forum knowing about it but I really had no choice and I really didnt want to complain about a forum sponsor but paying $1500 and been told one thing and getting something else is just bullsh*t. If it was $100 I would let it go but $1500!

I've attached pictures below to show you where the damage is, I haven't even checked to see if the unit works nor have I installed it and I won't be installing it until I get a response from Naviplus.

I did file a dispute with Paypal but I knew that Paypal wasnt going do anything so i'm going wait for a response from Naviplus and see what they want to do and if they don't give me a refund then I will dispute the charges with my credit card company and use this post, pictures and e-mails as proof that the item was used and damaged when Naviplus stated that the unit was brand new when asked about the condition.

Pictures of the labels and writting on one of the labels which has been scratched off without any care that it might damage the unit. Also attached is a picture showing missing screws at the bottom of the trim. And a picture of the hack job that is done where the rgb cable is coming out from the unit.

I would be super pissed too. The same thing once happened to me with a laptop computer. The company took the unit back, but I was screwed for the shipping charges.

Navi Plus is a site sponsor.
It amazing they would screw a forum member.
You should also post your experience on the Car Audio/Alarms/Navigation forum.
This is the forum Navi Plus shows up as a sponsor.

Thanks. I am very pissed off and hopefully Naviplus will do the right thing by refunding my money or sending me a new Nav unit. I did file a complaint on Paypal but it was rejected so I have a few days for Naviplus to respond before I dispute the charges with my credit card company. And it is shocking that a forum sponser would rip off a fellow forum member.

I first read your post, and wondered "scratches? well some minor brush marks, no big deal." I thought that you might be overly upset over this.
THEN I SAW THE PICS THAT YOU POSTED. This unit DEFINATELY looks well used, (and beat-up). I too would be upset. Naviplus needs to step up, and do the right thing.

300Con23s, your side of the story (no offense meant) is awfull. Even if the unit functions perfectly, I would be upset at the duplicity and expect a substantial refund. It's good you are addressing this issue prior to installation as one of the vendor's replies is already treading down that path (i.e. you caused the problems via installation).

ON EDIT: maybe a replacement (with a new unit) is the only acceptable solution. Reason being: what if the vendor offers and you accept a discount...now everything is great....next, you install the unit; at this point if it doesn't work (God forbid), I bet you will have unbelievable problems with a second resolution. Sooo, on second thought, demand a complete refund or replacement with a new, in the box, unit.

i'm pretty sure there is something you can do about it if they refuse to give you a refund.
i learned about this kinda stuff in business law.
they pretty much made a contract with you & breached it.
so you're kinda entitled to a refund & other "damages" which you have incured.
you should let them know you'll take action if one isn't given.
because seriously that sucks. stupid douche bags. :x
i hate horrible customer service & most of all liars!
but, i hope things work out for you!

it looks like the unit was stolen out of a car. Thats not used... that this is beat up! I would be pissed too. I'm waiting for their public response. This could eliminate any chance of me ever going to them.

As troublesome as the fact that you received damaged goods, is the one-liner email response that neither addresses the problem nor offers a solution! Definitely not the level of customer service we would expect from a forum sponsor.

Have you tried contacting them by telephone?
Best of luck... :)

No offence taken. And you do have a excellent point because I am worried that something is wrong with the unit and for that reason I am not going install it. I have 45 days in which I can make a dispute with my credit card company and before I can make it they want you to make contact with the company/seller and see if you can work it out. This is a chance for Naviplus to work it out before I go and make a dispute. I've been down this road before and won a dispute for $5000 last year but im hoping Naviplus will do the right thing. And im hoping that the members on here can make Naviplus do the right thing.

I will wait for a public response and then I will call them and if they don't want to give me a refund then I will dispute and make a complaint with the BBB in NY.

i hope that you get this resolved... i agree with linda that the one-liner e-mail's show sub-standard customer service and are definately subject to scrutiny. best of luck to you getting this resolved without having too much trouble. i too am eager to see the outcome of this issue and am anticipating naviplus' response. best of luck!

This is unbelievable. HOW could any professional company send a customer an obviously abused unit like this and think that someone would not notice? Their email responses are clearly indicative of a poorly run company and one with a very low level of customer service and communication skills. They should have immediately overnighted you a brand new unit no questions asked.

DO NOT accept this unit under ANY circumstances. A "discount" will NOT suffice. You DO NOT want this unit at ANY price, trust me. If you want to give them one more chance to supply you with a brand new unit, that's fine, but I tell you if it were me I would go for a full refund and buy another NAV unit from someone else, even if I had to do without the mod. If this is an indication of their work you do NOT want to buy any of their product. Sounds like these guys are working out of a basement and have no idea what they are doing.

Another point to keep in mind - more than likely if you were to have any sort of problem with the Nav unit you would NOT be able to get it fixed under warranty from DCX. One look at the unit by a tech and warranty work would be refused, not only by being "modded" but because of the physical condition of the unit.

And there's more - the unit was manufactured last October, almost 7 months ago. That's not so bad in itself but you would be better off to find a current production unit. Lots of little changes are made along the build process with electronics such as this. The newer the better.

You will always have trouble with disputes like this with PayPal, it can be a long and involved process and as you note they already turned you down. You may also have trouble with the credit card company. If you had not recieved the goods, no problem, but you did receive them and even though damaged they may not opt for a refund but rather an adjustment or replacement. It depends on how much NavPlus will dispute a chargeback. There is a "workaround" for this however, I have sent you a PM...

spurious?

Since when did a professional company use hotmail email addresses? there's something fishy going on- I suspect this is an east european scam rather than a genuine Naviplus issue..

My three bits until proven otherwise..

I agree something is fishy, Kid got it right, this unit looks stolen, as one who has installed his own nav, there is NO WAY to hack it up unless you are in a hurry getting it out. I have spoken to Navi plus and the guy I talked to did not sound Russian like the name in the email (can't always rely on that though). Have you called and spoken with someone, these one liner email responses are very suspect.

Just by looking at the pictures, the unit looks HOT...It looks as if someone used a screwdriver to pry of the unit in a hurry. Navi plus should, without further beatin around the bush, refund your money. And since they are a forum sponsor, should be banned from sponsoring here. I hate it when someone takes advantage of me. If you paid 1500.00 for a new unit, you deserve a NEW unit, not one that looks HOT..Hang in there and do no give up hope. We 300 owners feel your digust. Keep us posted on your journey to redemption....
