I want to put a JBLGT0804 sub in the rear dash where the 7" hole is precut, I will use a 1/2" round wood ring to srew under the 7" hole so I can mount the 8" JBL.The JBL is the slim model, does anyone know the depth of the factory molding in the trunk that cover the speaker area from metal to moldingin the trunk area, what I am asking in a nut shell is Can I still use the factory molding covering the speakers now in the trunk area which has no sub and install the sub 3-4" deep and still use the original molding?

I would say to try it, but that trim panel will can rattle from the 6x9s. I'd
imagine if you put a sub in that could increase the likelihood of it rattling.

My first mod was to remove it altogether. Then I applied sound deadening,
follow up by a material from elemental called v4. I think there is also
a similar material called ensolite available from the raamat site. Basically
that way the area underneath the deck isn't naked, but still has a dark
trim.

I suspect not having the panel may impact your sub, unless it was designed
for free-air use.
