I have a question about my 300's trans. It's a 2006 SRT8 and I'm trying to figure out if 2500rpm @ 80 is normal. I've searched the internets and I see that the 2006 has a 5sp and 07 and 08 have an overdrive. That would be the reason for the high RPMs?
Would someone with an 07 or 08 let me know what rpm they are running @ 80?

Tanks

2250 to 2500 is about normal for my 06 SRT8. Really, when you think about it, at a max RPM of almost 6500 and a top speed at 170 mph 2500 is quite low for 80 mph. And yes, our cars have a 5 speed OD transmission just like the 07’s and 08’s.

In short, no this is not high RPM’s; At least not in my opinion for a 6.1 liter V8. For reference take a look at a 1.6 liter Honda and see how many RPM’s it’s pulling at 80.

I guess that sounds right, and my car has an overdrive? That I didn't know.

I was just comparing my engine speed with my 96 Impala, stock it was just under 2000 at 80. Different rears maybe.
Tanks for da response.

the Imp has a 4-speed transmission and different rears, also it gets power at lower rpms, so that would explain the lower rpms at 80.

You know I wondered about this myself for awhile because I drove a Camaro with a 6-speed for years and got used to the engine just barely chugging at 70. It's not a bad speed for the engine at all.
