New TSB: Flash: UConnect Hands Free Module Fails To Respond Due To Module "Lock Up"

TSB#: 08-049-05

Date: Sep 1, 2005

Subject: Flash: UConnect Hands Free Module Fails To Respond Due To Module "Lock Up".

Models: 2005-2006 LX (300/Magnum/Charger)

Overview: This bulletin involves flash reprogramming the Hands Free Module (HFM) module.

NOTE: NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with UConnect Hands Free Communications (sales code RSP) that were built prior to October 02, 2005.

Symptom/Condition: The Hands Free Module (HFM) fails to operate causing the UConnect Hands Free Communications system to not respond when system activation is attempted by the customer. Further diagnosis may reveal that when the StarSCAN® scan tool is used to read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) the tool indicates that the module is not responding. Other modules on the bus may display loss of communication with the HFM. If the Hands Free Communication system is unresponsive then the HFM may require electronic reset.

Diagnosis: Attempt to reset (power reset) the HFM as follows:

1. With the ignition switch in the “Off” position, remove the “Ignition Off Draw” (IOD) fuse and wait 10 seconds.
2. Install the IOD fuse.
3. Turn the ignition to the “On” position (engine not running).
4. After the module is reset, press the “Phone Button” on the rear view mirror to activate the UConnect Hands Free system and to verify proper system operation. Did the UConnect Hands Free system reset and now operates properly?
a. Yes >> Perform Repair Procedure (Flash).
b. No >> This bulletin does not apply. Further diagnosis is required. Continue diagnosis as needed using the existing diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT.

NOTE: Do NOT replace the mirror for the above condition.

I just had the whole module replaced 2 weeks ago for this unresponsivness and all is well now. Now I'm wondering if that's all it was. At least if it goes out again this TSB will help.

The reference to when they were built is "built prior to October 02, 2005". I assume that's a typo and should be 2004.

Nope, not a typo, the change will not take place on the assembly lines until Oct 2nd...

So, where is the IOD fuse located? It's the second time this happened to me. The first time I had to remove the glovebox, to access the Uconnect module, and pull the connector out to reset it. Now it's happened again and I don't feel like pulling the glovebox again. cheers.

In the trunk fuse box, #1, larger 60 Amp fuse. I've got the same problem, even disconnected the connector on the box itself - no go.

If you replace the module behind the glovebox, does it have to be reflashed by the starscan tool?

I had mine replaced back in 2005 with a loaner till a new one came in. No reflash was necessary either time. I was surprised the phonebook isn't stored in the module too.

Thanks! My friend's went out and we've tried the easy stuff. I can find one off a parts car way cheaper than have the dealer reflash the original one...

What were the cost incorporated with the dealer to fix it? Is it under warranty? I just bought my 2003 300c about 2 weeks ago and I have a transmission leak and Uconnect and the rear back up sensors didn't work.

So I guess my other question is how do I fix the back up sensor? I have made sure that the Park assist is on and the sensors are free of dust as well.

Thanks

My registration says 2006 but the door of the cat says 2005. I had to disconnect my battery. After connecting the battery, the uconnect still comes on but it has problems. When I try to pair a phone it says maximum devices paired... then when I go to list the paired phones it says no phones are paired. How can I fix this issue?
