Well i left australia right on time friday morning (woke up at 4am)left brisbane airport 11am and landed in american some 12 1/2 hours later all perfect so far, now this is when it starts to go juk, i go to get my bags to take them to a connecting flight, but they are lost, 45 minutes they fine them and i run to the domestic airport, whilst standing in line at the airport they close all the security down as there is a terror threat, 2 hours later we're up and going again, we land in dallas to change flights all good, we wait for 2 hours and board the plane 45 minutes after we board the plane they say the plane has a broken windscreen and they might have to get another plane or get this fixed but ask us to stay seated. 1 hour later we're off the plane and awaiting another plane to come. 6 hours later the plane arrives and we board, after sitting on the plane for another hour they annouce that the crew have worked to long and now we must wait for another crew to arrive before we can take off, 2 hours later the other crew arrive less 1 member, so we wait for another 1 1/2 for another crew member, well it's now 1am in the morning and we finally take off, we then land in miami and exit the plane it's 3.45am i then go to get my bags and they tell me they are lost an do not know where they are GREAT!, so i then hire a car and drive for a hour to get to boca raton, it's now 5.30am , i now have enough time to get breakfast go buy a new phone and satnav and have enough time to make it to diablosport for the dyno's today. Well it's now 11pm at night here now and i'm just about to go to bed and sleep for the first time since i woke up to go to brisbane airport 3 days ago.

Thought i would just pass the last few days experiences on, and as of now i still do not have my bags!

I wish qantas did flights across america

Steve,
Man what a day. We where over their in Dec/Jan and tried to avoid travelling by plane where we could.

We had 3 internal flights in the USA and they where all running late, one of my sons got food poisioning on one flight as well on one of the flights and was sick as a dog the next day.

But your right the US is a great place to visit but going away from Aus just make you understand that we have it so good back home.

Hope your bags turn up, have a great and safe trip.

I hear that HEM08 - I was there this time last year and me and the Mrs drove some 10250km's across the country in a Ford Taurus and had the best time of my life (after the wedding!!) I love America and have enterd the Green Card lottery in the hope I can get to go live there at some point.....United Airlines flight from Hawaii to LA is crap - its like riding a crappy bus!!

We rented a 10.5 Metre Long 6.8Lt V10 Motor Home and drove from Orlando to Washington and them hired a SUV and drove from Washington to Canada and back to Detroit.

You get too see so much more of a place and its adventure as well.

Steve, I can feel for you, I travel extensively on business, without a doubt US airlines are the worst. even including small Asian, ex commie ones, think Vietnam, Laos etc!..

Added to this it the paranoia at the security checkpoints! I've become inured to the vagaries of cross US travel & don't let it bother me (too much) now!

I hate going through the States almost as much as changing flights at Sydney , so near to home but they add an extra 3 hours to your trip (& why Sydney, Melbourne makes a much better hub with all the terminals being together!)

Hope your return trip is smooother, but don't forget you will lose a whole day as you cross the dateline.

PS don't think that Qantas doesn't lose bags either!.

It sounds like you signed up for the adventure package without knowing about it. I hope the remainder of your flights go smoother and your bags turn up.

Every single time I have to stop in DFW (Dallas Fort Worth airport) something bad happens. Just like what happened to you. No flight crew, plant too small to fly to its destination, waiting for a crew member etc. I will pay extra to avoid that airport. And I always do. But flights get canceled and the only way to get where I want to go is DFW. Always a bad way to begin or end a trip (DFW). As far as loosing the bags, perhaps its that Aussie penmanship...hahahah the bags are down under somewhere.
Sorry, I really hope the rest of your trip is a success and you meet lots of good blokes.

Definitely an exercise in futility, Steve. Welcome to the pathetic state of the American flying experience. Sadly, it’s become a way of life here. The excuses by the airlines, airports, and TSB are a sign of poor customer service, lack of pride, rather than due to safety or weather issues.

People who live and regularly use air travel within the U.S. experience the same thing you did. It’s a disgrace. I don’t fly much. However, my last experience on a domestic, non-stop airline directly to and from my destination took me 1.5 days to get home, forced me to spend the night in SeaTac, misplaced my luggage for 3 days, and delivered it to my home with a broken zipper and one broken wheel.

Hope your next experience fares much better and that your luggage is completely recovered in tact.

Christ mate!!! I am sure it will get better!! I have only had my bags go missing once, coming back from Dubai, but I was at home so it didn't matter... Being in a different place with no luggage sucks balls!!!

Head down to South Beach and get yourself a pimpin outfit mate :fing02:

Yes I agree on the US Airline poor service. If the flight is under about 5 hours all they give you is a soda and packet of pretzels. Even flying up from Mexico City they didn't give you any booze, considering it was at international sector (American Airlines).

They used to give free booze on any flights into Vegas, sponsored by the casinos apparently, but that was cut-out the last time for us.

Roadtrip is the way to go, except for Steve who is on business.

LAX Airport is another one to avoid. The staff there seem to genuinely hate you, and customs... well, just don't watch how customs treats your bag, you don't want to know. We had similar grief trying to get home, six hour wait before being flown to Sydney, best of all, also without our luggage!

Well I am glad to see that our airlines are making visitors to this country feel right at home, they are truely treating like one of our own...its embarassing and I apologize from the nation.

If it is any consolation, I flew Qantas from LAX to Sydney back in January. They didn't lose my bag, they mashed it! When I picked it up at baggage claim, it had one wheel broke off, the handle was bent and the bag was broken open. Fortunately, nothing was missing. The service on the fight was excellent though.
