Hi,

My 300c has finally succumbed to the dreaded leaking oil cooler seals, anyone know of a garage/ mechanic close to Wolverhampton who can fix this for a not-too-extortionate amount?

Cheers

You might try tracking down Ray (UK CHRYSLER 300C). Hasn't been seen on the forum for 3 yrs, but had a garage in Stafford and experienced with CRD. Used to be a regular contributor to this forum.

What miles are you on ? I'm at 98K on my 07 and keep expecting to hit this problem one day. I'm close to you by Walsall so will be watching the thread. There's an independent Merc specialist close to me that may be worth a call. I've not had any dealings with them but they must have fixed this on many OM642 engines. Good luck.

Cheers for that, I'm on 205K miles so can't really complain - it's a toss-up between getting it fixed, or getting another car but with the price of second hand cars at the moment, I don't want to spend a lot on something which is probably overpriced when a few hundred quid will probably make the C live for a while longer. I've also spent a good few hundred quid on fixing the car recently so it now drives like new and I want to get some return off the investment I've already made :(

Bloody cars :)

Might be worth traveling. Join the UK 300 group on Facebook (Link) and ask for Gavin Bailey. Think he's somewhere Wiltshire way, he's done multiple people's oil cooler seals (I don't have person experience). Might be worth looking him up?

It's a full day's job (8 to 10) hours and Gavin is the only person I've heard recommended for this

Oh, hadn't come across this issue before!
Does it affect all 300C or just a particular engine?
Something else to worry about...
It's unfortunately a very common problem with the Mercedes OM642 engine. There are improved (purple) oil seals that are supposed to be a cure. It happens on Mercedes models that are fitted with the OM642 diesel as well as our Gen 1 CRD 300's

There's lots of videos on Youtube showing what's involved, the cooler is in the bottom of the Vee under the turbo piping and the fuel filter on top of the engine. You'll see what I mean if you have a watch here (the guy doing the demo has obviously done quite a few): Link

Cheers for that, only issue is I'm not on Facebook and have no intention of joining that horrific organisation :( Don't suppose you have any other means of contacting him or could contact him on my behalf?

On a related note, I've found a Merc specialist in Oldbury called Andy Gayle MB Services, anyone used him or had any experience of him? He's happy to do the Chrysler, even if it's not a full Merc :)
