hello to all. stan wrote a reply to the last oil question asking about motor oil weight for the 300c (5.7 hemi). but i just thought i would follow up with a new thread. we live in redding, california where the summer temps reach above 100 for about two months. the last month it has been over 105 ever single day. when we talked with the chyrsler dealer we bought the car from and asked about using 5-30 or 10-30 motor oil he told us that would void the warranty. stating that the mds would not work thus causing damage to the motor, etc. :1zhelp: has anyone been using any other motor oil besides 5-20 in the 300c? the last thing we want is to loose the warranty :deal: or the motor due to our mistake. if that happened it would not be pretty around here :spankme: hope eveyone has a good weekend. nicole

You two move over a little. I'll go get the oil expert. Hope there's room there.

My "C" just got her 2nd oil change yesterday. I asked the Service Advisor to change the oil to Mobil 1 5W-20 synthetic. After checking w/ the mechanics he said that this was not the recommended oil by Chrysler and if I had them change it, it could possibly void the warranty if something went wrong with the engine and it was related to the oil. He was very kind about it and understood why I would want to change it to Mobil 1, but he felt he should pass along that information so I could make an informed decision.

Anyone else get told this same information?

Thanks,
Audrey

Your service advisor is clueless, M1 is an approved oil and the manual specifically says using synthetic is approved, it however is not required. Let me guess, your service advisor advies against synthetic oil.

Guys, blindly follow th manual, DC makes NO adjustment in viscosity based on climate for the 300C. Plain and simple, do what the factory says if you plan to preserve the warranty, after 3/36 do what you like (7/70 for us 05ers).

I figured those highly paid engineers know what they are talking about..... I looked in the manual expecting it to say I could use 5w30 or 10w30 as an alternative, and to me 5w20 just SOUNDS too thin!... but..... sure enough the manual says you can use other weights on the 3.5 v6 but it is pretty clear that they ONLY want you to run 5w20 in the "C".... so that's what I did. I did get Mobil 1 however.... there is no way that synthetic can be anything but an improvement, and it meets all of Chrysler's applicable specs. The service writer you talked to is an idiot..... he probably was a car salesman last month.....
