During my last trip to Shenandoah and back, I switched off the radio and all audio and spent a lot of driving time in the quiet. However, I noticed some interesting sounds which I'm not sure as to their origin/purpose/function.

These are high pitched barely audible whistling sounds- sometimes in a long beep lasting perhaps two seconds and some times coming as pairs of beeps.. These sounds are similar to the ones I reported long ago that occur when you open the door after you have removed the ignition key and ready to exit the car. I have not been able to precisely localize the origin of the sound(s) and also can't seem to associate the sound with any observable event in the car (except for the one associated with the door opening)

I thought that the beep and double beeps were somehow associated with the MDS, but since I dont have the MDS light mod (yet) can't say if this is the case- the MPG reading doesn't seem to change in association with these sounds, but perhaps there is a lag period before that happens after an MDS engage/disengage..

Ah the maddening and mysterious 300C :)

Do you have the Nav system? Could be gps identifying vehicle for tracking re-configuration.My retirement is driving executive sedans for Boston Coach and the Caddy's GPS does beep at unique geographic positions normally a single beep but sometimes a double.

Hmm The GPS beeping eh? Okay maybe- except that my hand held Garmin/Teletype etc etc have never beeped at me..

I thought I heard my car beeping like that as well.
For me it turned out to be my cell phone beeping to indicate I went into roaming and back etc. I looked around the car for a long time before I figured out what it was.

I've heard it...and I don't have Nav...

Sounds like it's coming from the left, like near the driver door.

I have no idea what it is.

At what speeds were you driving? I may have had the same things happen but only around 80+ mph have I heard it....

I only remember hearing the noises when I get in and start the car...as the warning lights are finishing their routine.

I'm 99% sure its a speed alarm!!
I'am not sure about US specs. but I think the beeps are to alarm you that you have exceeded a certian speed. For example my car (in DUBAI UAE) gives me this beep every time I exceed 120 KPH (maybe 62 MPH)!
Try to notice when it beeps! hope this helps!!

responses

1. No Bluetooth Uconnect
2. Nope its not the cell phone
3. It may be some sort of speed related thing- not sure
4. Its the same sound as what you hear at the front drivers' door when you open it, but these seem to be coming from under the hood or more to the center
5. I wasnt going 80 when I heard it- it was definitly below that and maybe the 62mph Alik2b mentioned..

I've heard something like that in my C as well. Also if you trun off the car and sit in it for a couple of minutes the dash makes all kinds of interesting sounds. Electrical noises humming clicking...... key in or out doesn't matter. The second you open the door "poof" the sound stop instantly.....weird.
