Just finished the Polished SS insert with diamond cut orange vinyl 5.7 L V8.

Chrome ribs for <$5.00, 1/4" pinstripe, time will tell if they peel.

Superbird thankfully peeled from the old plastic insert with a razor blade.

IMHO, this finishes out the bay very nicely.

Thanks guys, I thought about the polished HEMI L2R, looks great but I have enough in this already having bought a new complete engine cover cause I screwed up the plastic insert. My punishment for being careless is no extra chrome.

I painted in my garage, I used Krylon Fusion whis is formulated to bond to plastic. High temp is not needed, it only gets warm. If you paint, don't get cute and try to paint the 5.7 L V8, despite my best efforts I had a little bleeding and had to scrape and scratched the silver insert, looked terrible. Had to get a whole new engine cover to get a new insert. ($51 at Wycoff, $77 local dealer) The vinyl 5.7 is superior, looks great self sticks and is available in several colors and chrome.

Warning if you paint keep away from your cars, do it outside and keep your garage doors closed, my buddy misted his wife's Jag painting in the wind with the garage door open.

Im impressed KingsII. Still debating whether to go with matching BB or this 'HEMI orange' for my engine cover. Did you really pay $5 for those chrome ribs or am I missing something here? Definatly looks good tho.
Yes, the chrome ribs are simple 1/4 inch pinstripe tape :D
Being somewhat a perfectionist, the front ribs that curve causes a slight wrinkle in the tape, not a big deal though, I suspect 1/8 tape would be perfect.

I thought about a Cool V cover or Tangerine Gold Pearl done by the body shop but they were talking $150, I could have done Cool V with Duplicolor on my own as well. FWIW, the eye pops when I open the hood, BB would be elegant but not that noticeable to the casual observer, It all depends on how much wow factor you want, I also considered yellow and red.

Kings, im definatly going to go with the orange now. the more i think about it, i do want that 'wow' factor youre talking about. afterall i did buy this car because of the HEMI so i mind as well make it noticable! come to think of it i have a roll of that chrome tape in my basement somewhere which sure as heck beats spending more cash on the molded chrome accent strips.

now all i need from you Kings is where i can buy that orange paint and vinyl stickers and hopefully ill make me-self a new engine cover by this weekend!

A young man that goes to my church goes to UTI which is an automotive school. He is taking collision and pait & body. So, I thought this would be a good project for them. You know just want to give something back!!! He is picking up Sunday and it will be finished when I get back from vacation. Man I'm gonna miss my car!!! So, I need to make up my mind as to color? Any votes?

I got the SS insert and vinyl letters (which are gorgeous for $25.00, letters only) here . This guy is very helpful and the letters are not listed on the site, he is at [email protected] email him for a phone # and give him a call to order.

I got the Krylon Fusion at Wal-Mart.

Here is an in bay shot, the dirty air box will say Volant as soon as it gets here.
