Power outlet doesn't work

The power outlet in the ashtray has no juice. I have tried a couple of devices/chargers with the ignition key in every position and none work (all work using the power outlet in the center consule). It has never worked (I tried it a couple of days after picking up the car). Any ideas?

I would check to see for a possible blown fuse.
My 04 Sienna had this same problem day one, blown fuse.
So you're saying that I should check the fuses before I say that the power outlet in the center console dont wurk?
I had previously checked the fuses; or, rather, I tried to....the owner's manual isn't crystal clear on which fuse is connected to the outlet...I checked all likely candidates. The manual also mentions a resettable breaker that I could not find.
The ashtray outlet is fuse #18 in the trunk fusebox. There are 2 ways to put that fuse in. If you put the fuse towards the front of the car, the outlet has power all the time. Put it towards the back of the car and the ignition will control power. Look in the box and you'll see what I mean. But it is #18!

It was #18 and it was "blown". Thanks.
Power outlet won't work w/ cigarette lighter?

My power outlet (in center of dash, next to ashtray) now works with phone charger. However, everytime I put an actual cigarette lighter in the receptacle, it blows the fuse. The first couple of times, when inserting the lighter, I pushed it down to the "make it hot", bottomed out position. Every time it immediatedly blew the fuse. Next, one try only, I simply inserted the lighter to its "parked" position.....same result, blown fuse (now, this really is strange). After replacing the fuse, the outlet works fine with a phone charger.

The manual says this outlet will work with a lighter. The lighters I have tried came from a 1993 Ford & a 1989 Chrysler (these lighters still work in there "home" vehicle with no problems).

Please spare me comments about divine intervention...I know smoking is the stupidest thing I have done.

I have not bought a new lighter, I know 1) mutiple lighters in my possession are functioning & 2) my local auto parts store says if a lighter works in a 1960s era car it is the same as what is needed in a 2005.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you don't have the smokers group lighter? I have the 300 lighter with no problems. Your lighters are probably not compatible with the 300. Suggest you buy a 300 lighter from the dealer.

Maybe I will do that just to eliminate doubt (although the owner's manual, which i just pulled out, does specifically say, on page 127, that the outlet will work with a conventional lighter).

Thanks for the response...in fact, I almost specifically addressed my question to you (remembering your comments on the recent illumination issue).
re:

Yesterday my dash lighter stopped working. I only realized this because my center console cig lighter stopped working too (which I have my phone charger hooked into). So I tried them both to isolate the problem... nope... both are dead. Check the fuses (all of them with a continuity tester) and found a 20A fuse blown. Replaced it.. cig lighters STILL don't work.

Took it to the dealer... he looked at it for about an hour or so and figured that the actual cig lighter socket in the dash was the problem. He ordered the part (not in stock)... and will call when it gets in.

I'll keep you posted but I'm still confused as to what would have caused this (all of a sudden too... cause I've used my phone charger almost every day for a while now).

yet another gremlin...
